The Sad State of the Stud Forum

Recommended Posts

Hey out there! What is going on with the stud forum?I LOVE THIS GAME! In fact, I am playing in a Stud Hi/Lo tournament right now. Why is it that no one post on here and why is it that no one wants to play this game live?I really do think that playing other games besides Texas Hold'em will improve your level of play in all games. Notice how all of the pros play most of the games out there? There is a reason for that. Ummm.... any thoughts from anyone?

i dont know why no one wants to play stud anymore either. texas hold em is a great game but variety is the spice of life, right? well ur something like that. also a thought for players who arent that familar with stud. everyone knows that the great players can play a few more hands in poker than opponents of a lesser caliber. well unfortunately in limit hold em its not that many extra hands. in stud an expert player truly can find a lot of extra hands to play and it makes the game lots of fun.studs a great game, a less mechanical game than texas hold em, at least it seems that way to me, and i think everyone should give it a try and see if they dont enjoy it.matty

Absolutely love stud, but my bankroll is lacking for it. The swings are too great for me because of the looseness of the players where I play, as well as my inexperience. With online play, I feel that I need much more experience in order to get a feel for what my opponent has, and with so much in the pot, I still can't get them to fold, despite the fact that they can see they're own dead cards in other people's hands. In the levels I play, they play stud to gamble, and I can't gamble with the little money I have, so I don't play it online yet, and won't for a while.

If I could find 7-stud hi/lo live games I would definitely play in them. I think most people see it as more of a tournament game though due to their online experiences.I played in some cash 7-stud hi/lo games online not too long ago and while it much different in terms of swings than Hold'Em, it is still an extremely fun and lucrative form of poker when played properly.

I miss all the games. It seems like hold em has become the wal-mart of the poker community. Fast, fast, fast. No one wants to wait 5 minutes for a meal so I guess it's no surprise stud is dead, but maybe not out. I imagine as all the great new players master the art of hold-em we will see a resurgence of all the noble standbuys. Off the topic my birthday card read, Age and trechery will always win out over youth and skill. I thought it was cute, although I wasn't sure if I was the youth or the age. It was from my girl.

I've actually learned a few types of Poker.I'm still real rough but I play Omaha, 7 stud, I wish I could practice razz somewhere. Limit and N/L Hold'em. I've been looking to play some 7stud but the guys at my home game are the exact people a previous poster was talking about. Hold'em Hold'em Hold'em. So I'mSOL because my Casino only hosts LHE games and the odd ODD omaha game at 15/30 a level at which I am just not comfortable playing Omaha at.

I like playing Stud, but never really get much of a chance to play it, because everyone is always wanting to just play hold'em. The only action I get is online. Stud is really all about statistics, memorizing the cards, calculating odds in your head quickly of hitting your draws in order to decide whether to draw or not. I think the skill in this is greater than in hold'em where you can always get out of a hand when you know your beat whereas in Stud it can look like you have the best hand, but get absolutely killed when the hole cards and river are revealed. I think playing hold'em bad players are on a more even playing field than in Stud where the bad players will usually always lose.

Would just like to say to everyone out there that the Stud action at Foxwoods Casino in North Stonington, Conn. is absolutely awesome. Action from low-limit spread games and 5/10, 10/20, 20/40, 75/150 levels play everyday with great action. Stud hi/lo and mixed games are also available there.DON'T LET THIS GAME DIE!!!Get out there in the casino's and play this game, most of the time these games are so much softer than the regular hold'em games out there it's a cakewalk.I first started out as a regular 10/20 limit HE player at Foxwoods, and made some good money - but the games started getting wild and crazy and my variance at this level was just too great to play regularly. I moved over to 10/20 Stud and my bankroll has quadrupled and variance has dwindled to an extremely low level. Stud is awesome!!!http://frankiepoker.blogspot.com/

I cut my teeth on 7 stud.It wasn't until about 99 that I even picked up hold-em, always was too intimidated.I mostly play THE now, but stud from time to time...actually freerolling a stud tournament at the moment...sitting in 482nd with 1000 left...just took a hard beat with my 10's over Q's full house loosing to a guy with wired 6's who got his quads.

I'm a relative noob to stud, and I've been able to turn a very consistent profit playing the following starting hands:-any pair (or anything rolled up, obviously!)-any 3-suited hand-any 3 connected cards-3 cards that are 10 or higher. After that it's just a matter of pounding your opponents with the best hand, paying attention to what cards force someone to lead out betting, and calculating your draws, which you can obviously do a lot more accurately than in HE.$70 in 3 hrs. playing 1/2 tonight... :D

I would love to play more stud, but simply don't have the bankroll. I can only play on Poker Room/Hollywood Poker (I have a Mac) and their lowest stud games are 1/2. I've played a few times, but just can't afford those kind of limits on a game in which I'm very much a novice. If they offered .25/.50 stud games I'd dedicate some time to it every week like I do w/ Omaha and Omaha8, but I just can't afford to.

I started out playing No-Limit Hold'em with a group of friends but I find the swings too much to take playing online. I tried playing limit Hold'em but just couldn't "gear down" having learned to play the no-limit version. I decided to try stud and found that I loved it. Of course all of the terrible stud players online were probably the deciding factor. Other than the occasional no-limit hold'em tournament I now play stud almost exclusively online. Hold'em is the only live game I can get where I live and I found that I have become a much better hold'em player since I started playing stud. I can't believe the traffic that limit hold'em gets over stud. I think stud is a much better limit game.

Stud IMO is the best game ever. Everytime I play I feel as though I just came out of a math test. There is so much more "thinking" involved with this game as opposed to hold em. I love it. Long live 7 stud please.
