Reports That Poker Stars Negotiating To Buy An Atlantic City Casino

Recommended Posts

The proposed Online Poker legislation in New Jersey only allows Atlantic City Casinos to operate online poker rooms and the servers have to be located in AC so reports are that Poker Stars is close to buying a struggling Atlantic City casino.

Looks like they're determined to get into the US market one way or another.

They better buy flood insurance.

How much will this change the look of getting legislation in put? I just don't see it happening for some time still, which is sad

New Jersey legislation has already passed the legislature and is just waiting for Gov Christie to sign it.

Maybe they ought to sign the contract on April 15. Can you believe in 3 months it will be two years since Black Friday.

From the article:

"Frawley said it would mean hundreds of millions of dollars of new capital investment for Atlantic City and 500 new jobs, in addition to saving the casino's current workforce. Rational Group also plans to pump money immediately into refurbishing the casino, among the oldest here, Frawley said.

"We need Internet gaming," he said Wednesday at an Atlantic Club restaurant, adding that the "traditional model" of a brick-and-mortar casino no longer works here."

I can see it now, laying on my beach blanket under the boardwalk, playing on my laptop, while chewing on salt water taffy.

PokerStars to see its final card in Atlantic City in August

POSTED ON THURSDAY, APRIL 18, 2013 8:16 AM

BY JOHN BRENNAN

The controversial bid by the parent company of online poker giant PokerStars to take over The Atlantic Club in Atlantic City finally has its timetable.

The Division of Gaming Enforcement accepted what it deems a completed application by The Rational Group on April 10.

That kicks off a 90-day time frame for the state Division of Gaming Enforcement to compete its investigation of the company – deadline July 9.

That report then goes to the state Casino Control Commission, which has 30 days to decide whether to accept the application.

There is no easy way out: very powerful forces sit on both sides of this issue, so some influential people are going to be very unhappy with the result.

While the state agencies are tasked to make the decision, Governor Christie’s authority is such that the up or down vote will surely be taken as a referendum on him.

If the bid is accepted, there will be outcry about whether the state is overly loosening its famously stringent regulations to make way for a foreign company that offered Americans a chance to play online poker in a time of murky legality.
