Here is a live hand that I am certain I played poorly. I have been playing about 45 minutes and playing rather tight. I am a mid 40's white guy. Villain is young asian who has been active. He showed one ill fated bluff on the river that got raised and called and he mucked face up.Hero has about $150, villain covers.Hero is Big blind with k8 diamonds.5 limpers including villian in cutoff.Flop 3 :4h 3 :club: 8 :3h pot $15Hero bets $10, all fold except villian who callsTurn 7 :ts pot $35Hero checks, villain checksRiver j :5c pot $35Hero bets $25, villain raises to $75 hero??

What were your reasons for checking the turn? pot-control? to induce the laggy kid?Is your river bet for value? What worse hands do you think he calls with? 98?

The check was for pot control. The river bet was a not well thought value bet.

Yeah, if you pot control the turn and an over-card falls, I'd check-call the river. Just remember to ask yourself before you bet, what am I trying to accomplish with this bet? getting a worse hand to call, making a better hand fold, protection, to charge draws, etc.

The riverbet opened the door for awkwardness, if I have a few buy ins in my pocket I call, if I don't I fold. The line we took looks weak so I could see villain making a move since you say he's active and bluffs rivers. Bad spot to be in, check to river bluffers imo.

I guess if you checked the turn for pot control, you should fold the river.
