Well we dont really have a QB but for once we do have a whole lot of draft picks. I am encouraged that Miami seems to be taking a safe sensible approach to rebuilding while still making moves like the Joey Porter signing to maintain competitiveness.I am cautiously optimistic longterm but a bit underwhelmed short term. They need a good draft for a change....

How do you see signing an older declining linebacker who has a history of running his mouth a good thing? Out of curiosity. Not to shit on your team or anything I just can't see the good standpoint of that signing.

While I don't necessarily agree with the huge overpayment of Porter, he seems like a "chip on the shoulder" type guy, and many people are saying he's on the decline, so hopefully, all the money won't make him soft, it'll push him to be better. Teaming him with Taylor is a recipe for disaster for opposing offenses. As a rule, teams always schemed for Porter when on the Steelers, and for Taylor while on the Phins, now having them both might create chaos. At least thats the plan.As far as the QB, don't rule out Culpepper yet. Yes, he looked gawd awful last year, taking 21 sacks in 4 games and looking shaky, but hopefully, Cameron can right the ship, put together a simple offense and let his big arm and Chambers go to work. If we get Ricky back, that will be a nice 1 2 punch in the backfield. I'm still not sold on Brown. I like him, but I just don't see him as an absolute workhorse yet. Sucks that we had the number 2 pick in the weakest draft in years. Figures. We lost one lineman (I think) but if the rest come back, and maybe we can pick one up, it will build some continuity that is needed up front. Hopefully, with the 9 pick and a few extra, we can get one or two impact guys. And here's hoping our number 1 pick from last year gets on the field and makes an impact. Who knows though, it may have been a reach. Too early to tell.

because it is a backloaded contract so if he cant play much they wont be killed by the cap hit long term.meanwhile, he probably feels he has something to prove this year and he will be positioned next to Zach Thomas and Channing Crowder who are both good LBs and he will be rushing opposite Jason Taylor who commands double teams. For those reasons I thought this was a great signing. He wont be expected to have to make tons of tackles....Crowder and Thomas will handle the rush defense mostly. All he has to do is rush the passer and make plays which he can do.....and he is in a good spot to do it as defenses will be focusing their double teams on Taylor.

I was under the impression he got 20M guaranteed, including 12M up front on a 32M contract. He could have a good year no doubt but more likely his play will fall off despite the good situation he will be in. Can't argue with your points though if he plays to potential it will be an extremely dominant Front 7.

Porter was an easy sign because it's a win now team.I'm really hoping Miami can pick up Brady Quinn. That will happen if he can get past the top 3, at which point we should be on the phone with the Redskins. They have no 2nd,3rd or 4th rounders and don't need a QB. We desperately need a QB and have a ton of picks. It's a trade scenario made in heaven. Imo we ship our #9 and our 3rd for their #6 and grab Quinn.

Desperate for a QB who doesn't show up in big games?

Yeah just one that played in a Pro-style Offense under Charlie Weiss and had a much worse supporting cast than any other QB prospect all the while putting up more PPG against the best defenses. Only reason Quinn's stock fell so much is because of that last game against LSU, and he didn't even get out-played by Jamarcus Russel. LSU just pounded away at that horrible ND defense. I'm not even an ND fan, so I'm actually glad he fell so low and below Jamarcus, cause there's no way we would get him if he was top 3.Peyton Manning didn't "show up" for big games in college and in all the NFL playoffs prior to this one. He now has 1 ring, bunch of records, and probably many more to come. You can't pin a loss on one specific player.

12 mill up front is the key. The bulk of the guaranteed money is gone after this year. Say he plays mediocrely for 15 games then blows out his knee never to play again. The dolphins cap hit would be 8 mill, pro-rated over 4 years. Thats annoying but not a huge, damaging cap hit. Basically by guaranteeing so much up front, the Fish are gambling Porter will be huge his first couple years especially his first. For reasons stated in previous posts I think that is a solid bet.If they dont shore up the O-line and QB it wont matter. As for Brady Quinn, I tend to agree that ND's struggles in big games were not just his fault. Their D must share a lot of the blame. If he fell to 9 I would take him. It is worth the risk. I would NOT trade up for him though. The only player they should trade up for is Joe Thomas as franchise left tackles are rare and the Dolphins have been desperately seeking one since Richmond Webb went away.

Brady Quinn will never be anywhere near as good as Peyton Manning. A comparison to Ryan Leaf is probably a lot more accurate. And when your the QB, a Heisman front runner, and supposedly the best QB in college you don't blame your teammates for your poor play against the good teams. Anytime the played a team with anything resembling a good talent on defense they got crushed. Michigan & LSU were two prime examples, and it just gets harder from here.

ugh everything lines up perfectly and then they pass on Quinn? I know he is not everyone's favorite but the fins end up with Ginn (major reach at #9 damn it) and John Beck? With those picks they could have had: Brady Quinn and Dwayne Jarrett. which QB/WR tandem seems better???soooo dumb. this is the worst miami sports week in a while.

It's clear they reached for Ginn at 9, but from what I have seen I think Beck has as good a chance or better than Quinn to be a successful QB in the league. Jarrett is going to be another headcase receiver, I think you will eventually be happy he's not on your team.

then darelle revis and beck. Dolphins needed an upgrade in the defensive backfield. Much more than they needed an injured WR. I dont trash the fins for passing on Quinn as much as I do for reaching for Ginn.

Finally recovered from the Ginn pick. I hear Leon Hall is awesome for the bengals. Wish we had taken a CB instead of a risky WR.The Trent Green experiment should be a roller coaster. The D should be fine but I still worry about our corners on 3rd and long. Letting other teams convert 3rd and ten is a killer. Word is the rookie center has been impressive. Thats good news at least.

News out of Oaktown is that Culpepper has been EXTREMELY impressive in camp so far. Fantastic. I will now light myself on fire. I am so glad we gave up on him so fast so we could have the pleasure of watching Trent "Old man River" Green. Green could not have possibly looked worse in the Dolphins first preseason game. Not possible.John Beck better be good or Cam Cameron will be fired in two years.

I'd relax on that news, keep in mind they are going by comparison to what they already had... which wasn't much.

Well yea, I saw his lowlights...I think you might have to cut him a little slack right now, if the first few regular season games go down like that, well your team is hosed.

yeah, it was ugly. People, well not all people. seem to forget that he played behind a great line which gave him time and his mediocre receivers time to get open. Plus, he had a stud playing tight end and running back which help spread the field.Hmmm, which of these things do the Phins have? Lets just say, I'll be drunk alot on Sundays. Trent Green was not the answer. I actually would've preferred to stick with Culpepper for another year. At least he woulda been younger and potentially more mobil than Green with a bigger upside. I hope I have to eat my words.I was assessing the Phins recent history. Basically, every running back we've ever picked in the draft has floundered. Sammie Smith, Troy Stratford, David Overstreet, John Avery, Travis Minor and now Ronnie Brown.Defensively, we've drafted ok, but not recently. Eddie Moore? Jason Allen (I know its soon, but watch Laron Landry start for the Skins this year, our guy barely played.) I hope he's successful.Impact free agent signings...yeah, I can't think of any either.Successful QB's...yep, I'm still thinking as well. As a franchise, what have we done right in the last 8 years? I can't really think of anything. Crowder was a good pickup. Thomas and Taylor were great draft pics, as were Surtain and Madison, but besides that, its been futile. Now I'm depressed. But hey, I still pull for em, I'm just more drunk now.

It is just hard to think of another year where both Miami football teams are SO ****ING BORING!!!!Seriously ever since Marino left, the dolphins have been the most boring, vanilla offensive team on the planet. No big plays, no creativity. If Trent Green sucks it will be more of the same! Have to hope against hope the defense can bail them out again and again. Not likely.Hurricanes in CFB have the same issue post Dorsey. Just goes to show if you dont have a QB you dont have jack.
