In NO LIMIT HOLDEM how do you keep the bad vibes away when you are running bad? When you are running bad they always have the set, or the flush draw always hits... how do you get to a good place mentally.(yes I am a damn hippy)

Actually... I often fail. The trick is to know when the "bad vibes" have knocked you out of your normal game, and step away from the game. There's nothing worse to your bankroll than trying to chase back to even: your play is so atrocious during this time that you are more likely to donate another buyin or two rather than battle back to even.

Personally, I started to play poker games like five card draw, night baseball, 5 card stud, and 7 card stud when I was about 10 with my grandparents, aunt, and some other relatives at the kitchen table. We didn't play for money, but it was a good learning experience. My grandfather used to say, "When you are having bad luck, get up go around you chair clockwise and sit back down." I've done that ever since I was little when I was having bad luck, and it usually works, though it probably is like a placebo. I think everyone has their own little things that they do to ease their mind, and to help them feel like their luck can change. I don't think they work online though, because losing online is the result of the doomswitch, sorry :/

If you're running bad but want to keep playing poker, play a different game. Don't know another game? Learn one...or play a different variety of the one you're currently playing. I've been doing quite poorly in NLHE cash games for about a month now. However, I'm doing pretty well at NLHE tournaments (MTTs and STTs). Over my three year career, I've gone through quite a few phases. I've switched my 'primary' game somewhat frequently. I mean, probably 2/3 of the time it's been NLHE cash, but there are certainly times/months where I've focused on NLHE MTTs, NLHE STTs, LCP, LHE, SHLHE, LO, PLO, LO8, and O8.Oh, and if you continue to run bad...hey, at least you're getting some variety to it. The bad beats will have some novelty to them and might be easier to take. For example, it's much more frequent that you'll have AIPF scenarios in tournaments as opposed to cash games. It's also generally "less expensive" when you take a tournament beat. Factors like these can potentially mitigate the stress.

The key to running good and keeping bad vibes away is hitting one outers. Practice hitting one outers for a few weeks then move up in limits. Simple really.
