Yeah but have you ever listened to jazz....on weed?!
Weed just makes me sleepy, irritable and paranoid, that's why I quit smoking it. Anyway, who smokes weed? Skunk is clearly superior, or even bud.

"Girlfriend" is just ridiculous. One of the better songs I've heard in quite some time.Anyway, right now, I'm listening to Jaco play "Birdland" with Weather Report. There is a certain romance to the creative manifestation of massive mental illness. The live cut on youtube is better than the studio version.

Actually, I did get it. It's on my iPod and has received considerable tick. I just know you hate genre names, and considering the massive chillwave backlash, I figured I'd have some fun with you. Chillwave rules.

Everybody should listen to this song, it is one of the highlights of recorded music, imho. Seriously.Gene Chandler- Rainbow '65 Gene 'The Motherfucking Duke of Earl' Chandler, a live recording from 1965. It's referred to as Rainbow '65, and is apparently one of the most famous and renowned live soul recording ever. The rest of the concert is up and down, but this song is just outstanding. The last couple minutes absolutely give me chills every time. The screaming girls don't even detract from it either - they add an air of excitement. You can so totally picture them fainting in the front row when he works his magic towards the end. I don't even wanna ruin it for anybody by telling you what to expect - I promise he will blow you away. Seriously, it is absolutely incredible. Anyways, Dilloriginals II. Part 2 covers all of Donuts, and a few songs from Amplified. Gene Chandler's Rainbow '65 appears on Donuts on the track 'Last Donut of the Night,' but, as you'll hear, he only sampled the emcee's introduction. Chandler's performance isn't actually used at all - Dilla's track is created from The Moments' To You With Love, which is also of course included in my compilation. Anyways, Dilla completely introduced me to that Gene Chandler track, and I think it was definitely a little wink on his part, sampling from the intro of it, and sort of leaving it there for us to find. And The Moments' vocals he uses on the song say, 'That's [what I] gave to you.' And Dilloriginals III. Third and final part. This covers a lot of his earlier stuff - SV's Fantastic I and II, some stuff with Common, etc. I saved a couple real gems for the end, and I'll give you a very quick rundown of those 2:Stan Getz (at 2:04) = The Pharcyde's Runnin'Ahmad Jamal (at 6:46) = De La's Stakes Is HighAnd the Jamal song is great. And a lot of the Fantastic Vol. II stuff is totally amazing. Players, of course, but also some ill Bill Evans and Herbie Hancock in there. The Herbie song is amazing - it fully embodies that cheesy 70s sound, and it's also beautiful.

Well, after you pumped it up this much I have to say I was seriously underwhelmed. The end bit was fun and all, but as a live performance the Sam Cooke album you posted a while back has so much more energy and excitement without people screaming, in my opinion anyway. Perhaps an element of it is that I've never heard of Gene Chandler, or the song "Rainbow".

I actually meant to say 'live recorded music,' which would have pumped it up a bit less, although still a lot, and perhaps more than I should have. The youtube link isn't great sound quality, but it isn't terrible. Anyways, you're right, Sam Cooke is better, but that's like comparing somebody to Monet. Related, I've been listening to a lot of early Sam Cooke, his early gospel recordings with The Soul Stirrers. Really outstanding, I can upload some and/or direct you to a torrent if you're interested.

Well, I had dimly heard of Gene Chandler, but I didn't know the song 'Rainbow.' I definitely did know the song 'Duke of Earl,' but I didn't know it was his song. It was a pretty huge hit in the early 60s, and it's kinda cheesy, so I guess I was surprised to find that it was the same guy performing 'Rainbow.'Basically what I'm trying to say is this:Posted ImageThe man undeniably looks good in a cape. There's not much more to say.
