Yeah, at first glance I thought the Pirates made out well, and the more I look at Sanchez, the less I like the deal for the Giants. Hitting .296 with a .334 obp and little pop, so I guess he will fit in with the rest of the lineup. Both deals have been improvements over what they had, but if I was a Giants fan I would be pissed that those needs were not addressed last winter.

Really? I don't understand this. Sabean gets ripped and ripped for not doing anything, then when he does, Giants fans are still not happy. I mean have any of the Giants fans in here really ever seen Alderson pitch? How good is he really? Is he really not worth trading for a possibility at getting to the playoffs this year? As an A's fan, I only wish my team was in position to make trades for guys like Garko and Sanchez. Maybe I'm outta line here, but I'd rather be playing for this year, and not for 4-5 years down the road. A's fans are friggin force-fed the future. I'm just so sick of it...I wanna live in the now dammit!! Ok sorry /rant. :club:

Sanchez is so bad. He is like a true .289 hitter, which is good, but its also his only skill. He doesn't walk, he doesn't hit for power and he is below average defensively. Plus for how mediocre he is, he is pretty expensive 6.2 million for this year, and a 8 million dollar vesting option for next. And the Giants are on the hook for all of the money owed to him.I'm not a Alderson fan because he doesn't seem to get many strikeouts, but this is still a guy that who was widely considered to be in the top 30-50 prospects. I believe ESPN even had him in the twenties. And thats just too much to give up for Sanchez. How in the same universe is it that Sanchez goes for Alderson that the Marlins are saying no to a Heath Bell for Sean West trade?

I guess I just keep hearing all these fans on KNBR talk about how 'untouchable' Alderson and Bumgardner (sp?) are, but I just wonder how many of those people really know who these guys are, and how many of them just hear a name and take a stand based solely on that. Like I said, I guess I'm just speaking as a frustrated A's fan who never gets to see his team buy...it's always sell sell sell.

I know exactly what you're talking about Sportsmack. Sebean made this trade to help us now, but I don't know if it's worth giving up Alderson. Alderson is a really good pitcher and giving him up for Sanchez who isn't that great of a player was a big mistake on Sebean's part, imo. Sure, he might help us this year, but like moneyball said, we are on the hook for his contract which is a decent amount of money. Only time will tell if this was a good trade, bad trade or a horrible trade (Pyerzynski for Nathan, Francisco and Booth).

I have no problem with Sabean going after Sanchez - it's just that he seems to overpay all the time. Look at the trades that the Brewers and Twins made for Felipe Lopez and Orlando Cabrera (two middle infielders that are reasonable comparisons to Sanchez). Neither of those two teams gave up any high level prospects. The Cardinals did give up a high level prospect (Wallace) but they got in return a big bat in Holliday. If you're going to deal Alderson, you'd better be getting a Victor Martinez, not a Freddy Sanchez.

There's another good reason that the Sanchez trade sucks. Why aren't the Giants playing Juan Uribe at 2B? He's played there in the past when he was on the White Sox. Take a look at some of his past seasons - he actually has good power for a middle infielder.

Uribe was injured at the time this trade was made. Also, Sanchez has another year on his contract (well...an option that will be picked up) so he is not exactly a rent-a-player. I wasn't a fan of the trade at first, but I really like Sanchez as a player and I don't think that Alderson will ever be a dominant major league pitcher. I don't think it was an ideal trade by any means because they probably could have gotten him for less, but it is not as bad as some people think.

Agreed. This was the worst umpired series I have seen in my entire life. Three blown calls today (Furcal out at first which extended the game, shierholtz safe at first, sandoval getting hit by pitch - called a strike) and numerous other blown calls at first base earlier in the series....****ing ridiculous. Does anyone know what kind of review system the mlb has for major league umps? Cuz this crew certainly should be reprimanded.

Lol, both those plays at 1B earlier in the series came with 2 out and nobody on. Were the Giants suddenly not going to suck offensively? I can understand being upset about them, but they really had no effect on the game whatsoever. Furcal was def out in the 9th yesterday though, and that had a direct effect on the outcome of the game. As did the enormous strike zone Lincecum was fortunate enough to work with all day.

The good thing about all the bad calls is that it gives the kool aid drinking Giants fans something to distract them from a 2-4 home stand, an increasingly unstable back end of the rotation (and that is counting Zito as 'stable'), and a completely ineffective lineup. On a side note, I didn't mind losing on the walk off yesterday; I obviously would have loved to sweep them, and I def went on a verbal rant about how much I hate Mota afterwards, but 2/3 is more than I was actually expecting. The Dodgers threw Weaver+ McDonald and other relievers our there against the best pitcher in baseball and lost in 10, oh well. I also feel like a Lincecum 2-1 complete game victory would have been more of a momentum builder for the Giants then a random walk off hr. Ethier continues to show that he is our most clutch hitter and that is saying a lot with Manny in the lineup.

our season would of been over if we lost that game. I was also ranting about the bad calls because it was just one after other and it just grew to a boiling point. And like u said Patrick, if Lincecum had finished that game, our momentum would of been high.

How would your season have been over if you lost that game? That's what I don't get. Do you still think that the Giants have a chance to catch the Dodgers? Or are you looking realistically at the Wild Card? Because as it stands going into play today, you guys are only 1.5 games out of the Wild Card. So how would another half game mean your season is over? And I don't mean momentum wise either. They had no momentum coming into that game, so that win did nothing for them momentum wise. It's a "1 game winning streak." I don't think the Giants are done by any means. Do they have an uphill battle? Yeah. But they're chasing the Rockies, not the Dodgers. It's a 1.5 chase from here on out, and as long as you look at it that way, you will be much better off...Well maybe not GoodTom so much :club: Yeah Yeah I know, go suck a d--k.

Did you watch that game? I have to disagree with you on the momentum part. Lincecum pitched a hell of a game against a great Dodger lineup. If we lost in extras it would of crushed our spirits and our season would probably be done. Another reason it would sting more is that the Dodgers have had our number for at least the past five years.

Have to agree with Sportsmack....Losing would have hurt a lot, but it wouldn't have been the end of the season. Momentum is a fickle friend. In another note, I hope David Wright is not out for the season...that was ugly. Kuroda too for that matter.
