Courcheval - Anyone Play This?

Recommended Posts

I haven't played a whole lot of games in this, so I'm still a little rusty so any strat advise would definitely be a plus.

Here is part of the hand, question is should I risk my stack for the high hand or fold for a better spot?

I'm not super-familiar with the game, but I can't find a math that makes not insta-shipping the right play. It sucks you don't have two spades, or something, but there is absolutely no range against which you aren't way ahead.

Better spot? What kind of "better spot" can you possibly imagine than this? Ever?

I will wait till tonight to post the rest of the hand and explain why I played it the way I did, altho I was told I played it incorrectly...reason I posted the hand, and would really appreciate some feedback. Thanks btw, Nick.

I've also asked the player who said I played it incorrectly to register here & post (since he is not a member, YET), hopefully he does ....so as he can explain it to all of us, himself! :D

Well, I had come to same conclusion as you did (as you can see) and I gladly and without hesitation shoved my chips into the pot, thinking I was ahead.

What I failed to mention was that 24 players get paid and I was in top 15 at the time, with 35-40 players left.

As you can see, I lost that hand...so I went from having 25BB to actually crippling myself and then eventually busting out.

** will post his reply, once he gives me permission to do so** (since he gave me great advice -which I'd love to share with you- on why this hand should have been folded)

Ok - here's what I think.... actually, I'll tell you what the voices say, they're better at poker than me....

When you're holding a small set pre (<999) the most likely holdings of your attacking opponent are:

As 2s x x (or equivalent - it only matters that she has the As + a deuce + one other spade)

or as I prefer to write it with her hand and the board:

(A2)xx

(5)

This gives you approximately 55% equity (see here), so your decision is an ICM type of one.

I've seen you play and I think you're good enough to fold - you have too much tournament equity to be flipping with a 10% margin for most of your stack.

I've played a lot of Courchevel on Stars and the fields are so weak that you get many better spots than this.

Had your stack been smaller - say 10-12bb - and/or the rest of the field been stronger, then a call would be in order.
