  1. As a fairly new player I have found that LHE is much more interesting and challenging than NLHE. I started out playing NL exclusively but have found that LHE offers me more oppurtunity to develop skills that I am lacking. In NL, like previously stated small mistakes can be masked as long as a big mistake is avoided. LHE puts more of a premium on hand selection and positional play. I have found that when I play my best poker is when I play LHE because it requires more thought to maximize winnings instead of waiting for that one big hand. JMO.
  2. I have been playing mostly NL since I started playing regularly in May. I have done fairly well but I am looking to play more LHE. So far I have faired ok but I am just looking for some advice on what change in mindset you need to be successful at LHE. I know this is kinda of wide open but I am a fairly new player and just looking for some suggestions.
  3. I agree Pacific is very fishy. Software sucks though!
  4. I play a very similar TAG style in $5/.5 SNG at Jetset. It works over there pretty much the way Steve said. I ten to loosen up with 3 left and have had great success in making significant increases to my BR by following this method.
  5. A case can be made for folding or pushing but I like pushing here. This early on it's hard to get away from this hand. Even if you lose you are more than likely still above average chip position. This is the advantage of having chips early, you can afford to take a chance on a questionable hand.

  7. This is definitely a tough one. Both Davin and ww make excellent points. IMO folding here is not out of line. The range of hands that the button can play here is very small being short stacked with a pre-flop raiser in front of him. The best you can hope for here is smaller pp for both of them but unlikely. I lay this down and look for a better place to get my chips in.
  8. Already some great responses that I think all have tons of merit. IMO a good poker player has to have one quality that hasn't been mentioned yet. The ability to look at poker as a game. I don't feel that you can be great or even good if you don't have this first. It factors into all the before mentioned qualities like guts and being able to control tilt. If you don't have fun playing then you don't view the game in a way that will allow you to ride the waves of success and disaster.
  9. Depending on the buy in amount your opponent's play is pretty standard. I would limp with your hand from the blind making it easier to get away from if you don't hit the flop. After the call on the flop I slow down because it's likely he hit something on the flop and puts you on something like AK or a medium PP. No reason for him to fold on turn or river with no real threat to his pair if that's the read he has. BTW IMO I think if you check the turn you probably get a free card on the river because he a little afraid he is beat and wouldn't play back at you in this situation.
  10. Well IMO I prefer a table with small stacks and a few big stacks. This late in a tourney most are sitting back trying to limp into the money and aggression against those players is a big part of playing a big stack. It all depends on the stack size and blind structure but selective play against those sitting back waiting for the big hand can lead to some easy pot steals and increasing your chip stack.
  11. I agree that a PF re-raise is the proper action here. The limited information you have PF without it makes this call tougher. Ultimately I think this is a call no matter what if he does have AA tip your hat to him and take the fall.
  12. sounds good. Better than what I did. Raised 3*BB got one caller and no more action after the flop. Which as luck would have it was quads!!!
  13. Just started a MTT tourney. I got AA first hand UTG w/ five active players. What is the best way to maximize pot here?
  14. Ok here is a hand and I would like input on this to see if I could have done anything differentI get 8 8 in middle postion in a $25NL game. There are no callers up to me and I raise to 3*BB. All fold until one before button who raises $2. Since I have sat down I have seen this player raise little amounts with big PP and larger amounts with AQ or K I figure that this is possible here in late position. Flop comes 5 6 J and I feel the flop is good for me. I lead out with $6 into $5.80 pot a little scared of the flush draw and hope to push him out right here. This is where I think made the m
