probably for the best. A co worker was lobbying hard last year for their kid to be named 'Tulo'. Based on this seasons oerformance, it would have been a bad call.

Thanks guys. Really nice of you all to be so excited about my Vegas trip :D

Damn it, you killed it. :)

I was going to say 'congrats, that is awesome news'....and then add a oh, and cool about baby too.

Congrats on both, how about that?!!?

I just got in 7 hours ago from the red eye. Two trips, 9 days, within 15 days of each other. Came home for 6, and went right back for work this week. lol

Can I join in July? I have a Warriors winning bet I gotta cash!

That's awesome. Living the dream.

I'm doing Arizona for 4 nights in June then Vegas for 4 nights in July but there's almost a month between them. Still, with a pregnant wife at home, I feel pretty fortunate :D The Vegas trip was her idea since I've been promising her brother I'd take him to vegas for a few years now.

A.M. Dubnyk has a certain ring to it!

This is more or less how we got Owen's name. I suggested Mario, Wayne, Jerome, Doug and Wendel. After those were unfairly declined I thought for a few seconds and came up with Owen Nolan - I liked both names, but there was a fat jerk growing up named Nolan so that was that

May I suggest pinball hall of fame for the bro-in-law. Get a roll of quarters and go nuts!

I lived at the pin ball arcades on Yonge street as a youth.

Highly recommend the Pinball HOF

VEGAS TRIP REPORT!

(Since Biatch asked over at FCHL. thought I'd post it here though)

Just got back on Monday from a 4-night trip. Had a blast, as usual.

The group was a little different than usual.

-Brother-in-law 1 - Matt: (My Wife's Brother) was on his first Vegas trip. I'd been promising to take him since he was 21, and he turns 24 this year. Really good guy. Plays a ton of poker, is a Leafs fan, and has just the right amount of degen in him for an enjoyable vegas trip.

-Brother-in-law 2 - Adam: (My Sister's Husband) A vegas vet. My first ever Vegas trip was with him and his buddies back when I was 22 or 23. He plays a lot of poker as well but he's a nit. Great guy and an easy person to hang around with.

-My Brother. Obviously a Vegas Vet. Likes to Gamble. Plays a lot of poker but doesn't live for it like the rest of us.

-My dad. Plays a lot of poker. Is kind of a nit. Vegas Veteran. He's been along on a few of our boys trips (the bachelor parties), so we don't have to act different or hold anything back with him around.

Arrive Thursday with just 4 of us, my Brother was coming the next Day. Head over to the Palms. First time staying there. Dev knows a guy who knows a guy who is really high up the chain at the Palms. Not sure what favours were exchanged, but somehow we got a 6,100 square foot sky Villa with a friggin swimming pool in it for FREE. The pool was on the patio and it overlooked the strip and it was awesome. Pretty much capped off every night sitting out there and having a few drinks before bed.

Made a few drinks and ordered room service, which was absurdly cheap for Vegas room service (one of the perks of staying off-strip). After a few hours at the room we headed out. I wanted Matt to see al the big Vegas rooms so we headed to Bellagio first. It was crazy jammed and unfortunately some of us were seated out at some tables in the sports book area. Overall, I was disappointed at how poorly the room was being run. Empty seats for 20+ minutes with a 30 person wait list. Generally chaotic and out of control. With that said, I got into a good game. Played very, very well. Made a couple of pretty big folds against a guy who I had a really solid read on. Made a thin value bet for about $100 against the same guy on a KT77A runout with KT. Was fairly certain he had KJ or KQ and he paid me off. Normally a spot where I just check the river but I was on my A game. Unfortunately Matt punted off a few stacks right away and was feeling pretty down. I assured him it's a Vegas right of passage to run bad on your first day of your first trip, and that it would turn around. I cashed out with a $400 profit after 4 hours or so and we headed to Noodles at Bellagio for dinner. It was great, and we decided to go check out Planet Hollywood and play a little poker there. Game was bad and it was too loud. Plus I had been up since 2:30 AM that morning because we had an early flight. I was having trouble staying awake at the table. Cashed out about even after an hour or 2 and Decided to head back to the room around midnight. Made a Crown and coke and we all sat around in the pool enjoying the sights and company for a few hours before heading to bed.

Friday Morning was up around 8. Went downstairs to a breakfast spot at the Palms called Lucky Penny or something? Service was terrible but food was, again, absurdly cheap and good. Dev's flight landed at 10:45 so we ad a few beers and just waited for him at the room. Once he arrived we headed over to the Tropicana. Had 5 tickets for the first day of the US Darts Masters PDC event which I was really looking forward to. I'm a pretty big darts nut, and I had no idea what to expect from a North American crowd. There hadn't been a major darts event in the USA since 2009, and the game has changed a lot since then. Turns out, the crowd and event was even better than I ever could have imagined. the matches on Day 1 were great. The crowd was amazing. Lots of loud cheering and chants and singing and whatnot. 2 Canadian qualifiers actually won their matches on the first day. Dave Richardson, who is a reasonably well known Canadian, beat Max Hopp, world number 40 from Germany. And a 21 year old kid named Dawson Muschell (nickname Awesome Dawson) from Medicine Hat beat the world #6 James Wade. The crowd went absolutely bananas when he hit the winning shot in the deciding leg. I had 2 tickets for the final day on Saturday, but I managed to buy some extras from a New Brunswick couple we were sitting next to, since everyone agreed that they wanted to come back again the next day. It was kind of perfect, because it ran from noon-4, which is a good time to fill with a fun activity that isn't gambling, and the beers were cheap too.

After Darts we headed over to Caesar's palace. There was a 7 PM tournament for $150 that we all wanted to play, so we headed over there and had dinner at a noodle place there before the tournament started. Bought into the tournament a bit late and there were about 75 entries. I busted my first bullet after about 4 hands after raising 86s and getting like 7 callers and flopping middle pair and a flush draw. Just shipped 18k into a 12k pot and got called by AQ and couldn't suck out. Bought back in and had my 20k stack up to about 50k within a half hour. Table was great. bunch of pushovers and the blinds were big enough I was able to build a stack without much resistance. I don't really remember many hands but the tournament progressed pretty quickly, and I found myself at the final 2 tables with about 13 players left (8 got paid) with 130k in chips and blinds at 5k/10k. aggressive Asian guy raised to 30k from mid position and I shipped in 130k form the button with AQ. He called and tabled TT. A beautiful Ace on the river gave me a big double up and made me chip leader with 13 left. Went into the final table as the chip leader and my Dad and Adam were both at the final table as well. My dad busted 9th (got his money back as everybody chipped in 20 to pay the bubble). Adam came in 5th for $595. Final table was pretty swingy as usual, but I ended up getting down to heads up with about a 2-1 chip disadvantage against the same Asian guy who doubled me earlier with TT vs AQ. He had a pretty terrible heads up strategy, and I was able to chip up pretty easily. Once I had him 3-1, I pretty much just started shipping every time since he had like 6 BBs left and was folding too much. Eventually he called with A4 against my A7 and I held on to win the tournament for $2450.

It was midnight by this time and I didn't feel like hopping into a cash game, so most of us headed back to the room to order some room service and drink and hang out in the pool. Matt stayed behind for a bit since he was at a good table. We were all happy to see him about 2 hours later and he had booked an $800 win to get him back to even on the trip.

I'll continue this later...

PART 2:

up at about 9 on Saturday Morning. quick dip in the pool with my morning coffee, facetime with the wife and kid, then back downstairs to the same breakfast spot before Darts. Darts was amazing again. There were 8 players left so they played 7 matches on Saturday (4 QF, 2 SF, 1 final). Some really great matches and another great crowd. The 2 Canadians got dusted pretty bad which was expected. Drank a lot of beers and had a really great time. I definitely want to go back again someday, and I encourage anyone who is even remotely interested in darts to try to make it there some time. Darts wrapped up around 4:30 and we headed back to the Palms to change, Grabbed some food court Pizza and placed a $50 bet on the A's to beat Cleveland (+190). There were only 3 games to choose form at that time. Played a quick session of craps with my brother and won $250. After changing, we headed to Aria where we all hopped into a poker game. My brother and I played 2/5 and I bought in for 500 and doubled up really early with AK vs AQ on an A high board. Table got pretty bad after that though and I ran into some tough spots. Slowly bled money till I left down $80 after about 5 hours. We decided we had to take Matt to a certain famous vegas establishment. I told him that he was probably going to spend whatever was in his wallet and don't go into the back room, He didn't listen to me and spent a lot of money but had an excellent time anyway. We got a table and a couple bottles of Jack and spent about 4 hours there and had a good time, but I swear I'm not going back there. It feels more and more slimy each time I go there (definitely not the first time I've said I'm never going back). needless to say, everyone's pockets were quite a bit lighter after Saturday night.

Sunday morning I miraculously didn't have a hangover and was up around 9 again. Dev and Adam were both flying out Sunday morning, so we saw them off, ordered room service for breakfast, and had a beer to clear the cobwebs, then went downstairs to cash my sports bet from the night before (boom, As won). $50 returned $145, so I pocketed the $100 and put $45 on a 2-game parlay for the angels and red sox (2nd game of double header) to win. Then headed to the Wynn to play some more poker and check another big room off the list. The new Wynn poker room (at Encore) is easily the nicest room in town. Great tables, lots of space, excellent drink service. Unfortunately, the play was kind of grindy, but I guess that's to be expected on SUnday afternoon. played there for a few hours and grinded out a $50 win while watching the Angels win a close 3-2 game. We decided to head to the Rio seafood buffet for dinner, which was pretty good, then walk over to the WSOP to see the set-up for the final few tables. It was pretty cool, though the players were on dinner break. We did watch a few hands of the little one for one drop final table and saw one of DN's VLOG main event seat winners win a big all-in on the river with AA.

After that we decided to head back to the Aria for some more poker. Got into a good 1/3 game that had more action than my 2/5 game from the night before. At one point, I raised $13 UTG with KcQc, got called on the button and the big blind. Flop was TcJsAc. I bet $25 and got one caller on the button. Turn 9c and I bet $60, and the button shoved for $240 with 6c3c. easy game. As I played I watched the red sox beat the Yankees on the screen above our table and my $45 bet returned $176. 2/2 on sports bets. Played till about midnight and won $430. My dad and Matt also had really good sessions, and erased most of their losses from the previous night's excursion. had an 11 AM flight the next day so headed back to the room for one last night sitting in the pool and drinking the rest of our duty free booze.

Woke up the next morning hangover free again (I run good), and packed up and went downstairs to cash my sports bet. Also placed a $100 bet on the Titans to win the super bowl (40/1). had 1 last degen blackjack session where I bought in for all my non-$100 bill cash ($145) and tried to run it up. Ended up getting up to $400 and had a $100 bet on there with a 6,4 against dealer's 6. I doubled and made a 20, but the dealer went T, 5 for 21 and I cashed out $200 (up $55). headed to the airport from there and back to reality.

honestly, one of the most fun Vegas trips I've had in a long time. Lots of poker, but the Darts really broke up the grind, and had a lot to drink and a lot of fun every day, and won money as a bonus.

2 important announcements, both relevant to the Vegas thread.

1. I've just booked my next Vegas trip. July 13-17th. Taking my brother in Law for his first Vegas trip (He's 23). Any suggestions on what we should do to make his first trip memorable? I've been so many times now I forget what it was like my first time.

Will also be attending the World Series of Darts PDC event final day on July 15th and I'm really pumped about that.

2. Wife and I are expecting our second child (another boy) at the end of September. I think this is the thread where all baby announcements are made if I remember correctly.

bit late to the party..Congrats..I guess she is due pretty soon...

Goofing around again. Any idea of Swoop airlines flying out of Hamilton?

https://www.flyswoop.com/

Non stop for $386 cdn. Trying to convince the family we should go there for Xmas.

Ive heard good things from people who have flown to/from Halifax. It’s very much no frills, but if the schedule and Hamilton airport work for you, good way to save a few bucks.

I don’t see a ton of value in it. But people won’t factor in the extra costs of getting to Hamilton and all the a la carte items. They fly to Tampa I think, or one of those places near there, so I looked into it a bit for next February. I’ll have to take a second look though.
