Running Bad In Tournaments

Recommended Posts

Ive been running aweful the last month. I havent cashed all month, but have only lost about $500 as a result of playing well in cashgames, my usual weakness.. How would you guys go about aproaching poker from here? It seems like whenever I get something going I loose a 88 vs J6o, my kings run into aces, or I just loose focus and make a bad bluff. What can I do to slow down the bad streak or even turn it around? Take a break from poker? Im usually a much better tourney player, but now that this is happening should i make a larger transition more towards a cash game?

I'm taking some time off from poker fallowing some bad beats that got to me. I was doing well in tournaments, but I feel some time off will do good. Take a couple days off bro and re-charge your battaries.

I can't understand why you would want to make a transfer over to cash games if as your post suggests you're a consistent loser in them?If tournaments are your usual bread and butter you are probably better sticking to them.Just go with the normal advice, take a break, reread some of the better books you own, possibly switch up the games you play a little, and minimize whatever poor plays/decisions you are making. When you're running good you can often get away with a leak, when it's going bad it seems to hurt much more. Find the leak and plug it.......cards will come.

I dont know how you play but maybe try to play more after the flop start flatcalling early in tournaments and pick your spots late. Try some new things man
Funny you said that, exacly what Ive been doing.. Figure I can outplay people after a flop, but I still dont want to play a 5 handed pot with Ak. Its not that Im bad at cash, I think im about as good as I am at tourneys there. Im a hyper agg. player, so I fluctuate much more in cash games. When Im running well, I play more cash games, but when Im running bad, I play more tourneys to slow down the bleeding.... Its weird that its backwards here

A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Finish college and learn how to spell simple words. This is my sincere advice to you.

Also, grow up and stop calling people "gay."

Tournaments have a lot of variance tho...so stick with it if you're good at them. I used to play limit but my tourney game got better than my limit game (or maybe I just went on a heater), but I feel I'm more comfortable playing tourneys than limit, so stick to what you're more comfortable at, evne if you are running bad at it.

keep playing well, and hope things turn around. If you get frustrated take some time off.

at most limits, assuming you can outplay your table is a bad idea

Newer posters seem to be far more militant and upset by vets flaming. Get used to it. That's what happens when you're new to a forum. And no, this isn't a flame, just a statement of fact for basically anyone who posts here

Get a new luckbox :-) Seriously though, perhaps a change of environment would help. if your sucky streak has been online, perhaps you can play the next few sessions at a cardroom (if this option is feasible for you) and vice-versa. If you don't have a cardroom to go to, take the next few days off and read some poker books.

hey man. i am in the exact same situation right now. i consider myself to be very good in tournament play. short handed sit n gos, or multitables. the last month has been great, placing in a few multi table final tables, and winning 100$ sit n gos back to back to back. and suddenly. the past two days, i started getting a little unlucky. that turned into bad playing. and today i started tilting and just playing disgusting poker. thanks to this bad streak, and my bad reaction to it, i lost $1,000. im still on top, i normally do very well, but its a hard kick in the teeth. what im going to do is just read/post in these forums, watch some poker videos, read a poker book, and get back to my normal game in a day or two. that always seems to cure me. especially watching clips. im getting the new torrent for High Stakes Poker episode 11 right now. haha hopefully i'll get some inspiration. but right now, my advice to you, is log off your poker account, and just take a break. brush up on your game. and then give' er **** again! good luck. cheers :icon_doh:so far this month (until my bad streak) i was up $1,510.00. just lost roughly $1,000, like i said. i got some serious catching up to do!
