While the payoffs can be huge (like Kurt Warner was for me in 1999) very few of them ever pan out, or if they do it could be 5 years down the line...e.g. Michael Barrett. A sleeper is someone who is an unexpected achiever of success. Turnbow had a very solid year last year for Milwaukee. 1.75 ERA, 40 saves roughly. You won't see him get picked and people in your draft say Oh my God, I totally forgot about him!Look for Daniel Cabrera to explode this year with Leo Mazzone. Possibly same for Erik Bedard. Francisco Liriano, if he can nail down the 5 spot in the Twins rotation, and Delmon Young is someone to take a late round pick with. Jason Kubel in Minnesota. Good source of K's also.His WHIP was almost 1.4 and his ERA was almost 4 (I remember) - he's one of those guys who if he puts it all together could shoot into the top tier. I have been in a keeper league for three-four years. I quit last year, but was fortunate to get my old team back. We keep 7 guys and my keepers were Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz, Randy Johnson, Johnny Damon, Jimmy Rollins, Francisco Rodriguez, and Ricky Weeks. I took a flier on Weeks and I think he is one of the best sleepers in the draft. Although you might not really consider him that much of a sleeper. Alot of people heard about him when he came out of Southern. I think the kid will put up Soriano like numbers in time. And he gives you walks, which the league I am in we use 5x5 plus walks and losses... Link to post Share on other sites

I like some of the names mentioned so far, but I think there are several big names left out.Felix Rodriguez of the M's probably doesn't even qualify as a sleeper, but he should have a huge year. I also like Jeremy Hermida of the Marlins, Casey Kotchman of the Angels, and Ryan Zimmerman of the Nationals. A not quite so young player, who I think could end up being a decent sleeper is Austin Kearns of the Reds. He's shown flashes of great potential, but never quite lived up to it, mostly due to injuries. He should be coming into this season, healthy, in shape and with an everyday job. I think he could well be primed for a breatout year.
