KowboyKoop 0
i think the game was pretty close. DR had the two big innings, including the 9th. their pitchers just looked more comfortable, which is surprising. if dominican pitches like they did today, the US will have lots of trouble.canada vs south africa game starting now. south africa plays baseball? who knew. The U.S. is just flat in trouble..period. Not to say they won't win...but they are gonna have to play VERY well to win the whole thing.....they didn't look that impressive against a sub-par Mexico team. They'll ease through their group..but when they face either DR or Venezuela...they had better play great or they will lose.
Hobbes 1
The World Baseball Classic will tell us absolutely nothing about who the best team is. If each country were to field a team of their best players, the U.S. could put together three teams that would be better than the D.R. or Venezuela or any other team over any extended period of time. In a single elimination format, however, a team like Venezuela with Johan Santana could be the favorite. Baseball is not meant to be played in single elimination.
pckt10s 0
yeah... doesn't determine anything... most players play half a game... pitchers are limited so... like I said this doesn't do anything but bring in some revenue for those involved...

leebs12 0
i'm not too impressed with the 2-0 win...Our pitching was fantastic...the Mexicans mostly played winter ball making them look better than they would against the same team a month from now. Iam pleased with the game, with the excetion of the first inning defense

Iam pleased with the game, with the excetion of the first inning defenseMexico had a couple chances... especially up against todd jones..lead off single... followed by double play... followed by castilla single...they should have sacrificed the guy to second with castilla (Fastball hitter) and durazo coming up... bad managing by mexico making USA look good... jeff_536 3
I can't believe canada is losing to S. Africa 4-3 in the seventh...i'm embarrassed for 35 million people.Oh thank god...a four spot in the top of the seventh...koskie a two-run shot.
leebs12 0
edit...wrong quote box Dodger fan here. I watched it and said "YEAH!!" then thought to myself... MDXS 0
Good game between Cuba and Panama right now......And the US is getting spanked 5-0 in the third.Edit: 7-0 in the fourth. Hard to believe considering how bad Canada looked against South Africa last night.

Hobbes 1
dontrell started the game lasted 2 inningsThanks. I just read a recap of the game and it said Al Leiter relieved him. Al Leiter??? Seriously? Exhibit A of why the WBC doesn't matter to the U.S.
aadams_22 3
Grand Slam by Jason VaritekCan 8 - USA 6The WBC does matter in the states.
MDXS 0
Sox players are rocking. Slam by Varitek and Stern's 3-3 with a single, triple, and an inside the park homerun. The interesting thing about the grand slam (besides Whitt's decision to make him hit righty where he's got more power) is that going into last season, Varitek was among the leaders in most at-bats without a grand slam. He may have been second behind Jeter.
StarfishAnts 0
I'm keeping tabs on the WBC more than I think I would if I didn't know two of the players on Team Canada(Radmanovich, Nicholson).

aadams_22 3
US could be out as soon as tonight if Mexico beats Canada 2-0, 3-0No they won't...if Mexico beats Canada and the US wins tomorrow it will be a 3 way tie. Canada beat the US, US beat Mexico, and the possibility of Mexico beating Canada would leave a stalemate tie breaker.

Round Robin tournament rules are different and the tiebreaker is total runs allowed. So pckt10s is right on the money.

But if they won by more than 3-0 we are good. But this is more confusing than the BCS formula.
