Thanks very much for the help guys. The friend is not really a gambler, so can't go through a host. We don't use Hotwire much in Canada, so most people don't like using it even for the U.S. though I always recommend it.

Got some good ideas, appreciate the help.

Dubey - your fiance sounds like a keeper.

So my little drummer boy son is a big ACDC fan, and an even bigger beatles fan. So on the Thursday of Superbowl weekend, I'm going to tell him I'm going to drive him to school. Instead, I'm driving

I'm pumped, going on my annual trip in 2 weeks.

You guys that were there 2 years ago.....Armen+I are looking to re:create that night with some of our friends who have never been downtown.

It was Golden Gate, the Gulch?, and then Rhino right? Im looking forward to dragging these guys into the Glitter Gulch the most to be honest. Its gonna become a sort of hazing I think, everyone has to go thru that hell. lol

PS- Dave I just read about your fiancee's surprise trip for you guys to Vegas. Nice catch! Very cool.

You are a mean, mean man. Also...make sure some Asian hooker drags one of your friends off for a private dance that he thinks you're going to pay for.

Golden Gate - Fremont Street Experience - Glitter Gulch - More Fremont Street waiting for the bus - Spearmint Rhino - Walking out to unexpected daylight the next morning - Back to MGM.

I only have very scattered memories of anything that happened in the Rhino, but somehow I escaped with every dollar I brought in there, except for what I spent on drinks. Mostly I was having fun trying to argue down the pricetags these girls had assigned themselves. That one blonde girl parked herself in my lap for like a half hour trying to negotiate with me...I remember John cracking up at how awful I was being to her virtually for free (I think I bought her a drink at one point because I felt slightly guilty).

Done!

Im pretty impressed we walked out of there without any "incidents".

And thanks for the itinerary recap. I think I'll make sure those bastards go thru the same thing. Havent been to a strip club since that trip, this should be interesting. One of my buddies is turning 40, and I asked him what his ideal night in Vegas would be, and he said

"............and finally, I want the night to end like it did on my last trip, walking out of Rhino to the glare of the sun at 9am, not knowing how I even got there or when"

ah, good times. lol

The way I remember it, we made the executive decision to walk out on half-full drinks knowing that "incidents" were right around the corner.

I'm surprised I was just enough sober to get out of the Asian dancer situation. I paid her for a dance and a half even though it was one dance. She was headed straight to the bouncer guy.

The bouncer guy didn't want any part of anything...he was all alone and there were five and a half of us counting Biatch.

Aparrantly, at the Rhino, they have something like 500 girls under "contract", and they can work whenever they want, There's no schedule or anything. There's a bouncer or something that "thins the field" and chooses who gets to work out of all the girls that show up on a given night. On busy nights, only the best looking girls get in.

I'm guessing there is no such system in place the the Gulch.

lol, I would have to assume so, but I will certainly ask about the criteria required on my next trip.

Anybody got any other tips for downtown? I think Ive only done it like 2/3 times, and I always just walk into whatever I see when the cab drops me off.

Is there a good casino or even a bar thats worth doing if Im already there?

I'm not convinced that all of the dancers at the Gulch are female.

In my opinion, the best dinner you can get in Vegas is downtown at the Four Queens. Hugo's Cellar...the place is amazing. There's a small bar if you just wanted to stop in and see the place, I believe.

Golden Gate was a lot of fun, I had never been there before that night.

Looking for a quick vegas get away..June 9-12 area...give or take a couple of days..4 nights..

Anyone have magic deals they find that I am not seeing?

Havent booked a Vegas trip in a while and not sure of the tricks..Arp, Wayne...Looking at you here!!!

I found Aria $1375 for 2 people ..Everything included..Air, Hotel, Taxes...Even two show tickets..

Its a wife trip, so the hotel needs to be "nicer" with a good pool.

$1375 for two people is good value, I paid around $1100 for 5 nights at Aria with flight included. Looking on Hotwire right now it would run me $807 per person flying out of Rochester for those 4 nights, so you're saving a couple hundred. My flight alone cost $507 when I went...airfare is insane.

That is not a bad price at all.

What I found on Hotwire leaving out of Toronto Sunday at 8:40 pm and departing Thursday at 11:30 pm. Air staying at the Vdara (no casino and no smoking) is $1,327. You also get 2 show tickets. I stayed there 2 years ago and I found it to be pretty good. Suppose to be a 5 star hotel.

Aria was $1,487 with no show tickets

Trump was $1,363 with no show tickets (I stayed there last year)

Mine you these are package deals and if you book separately they might differ in price.

Wow just remember that I was in Vegas last year at this time.

Also don't forget the $20 trick. I slipped $20 to the hotel clerk both times and got a free upgrade the Trump upgrade was unreal. The room was huge. The Vdara gave me a high floor overlooking the Bellagio fountains.

All indications are that the $20 trick doesn't work at Aria...I didn't bother trying because so many trip reports said it's a bust and I didn't find any claims of success.

It's the Aria -- they probably need more $$ than that. ;)

Honestly, if you don't enjoy their standard room there's something wrong with you anyway... Nicest hotel I've ever stayed in anywhere.
