Agreed...Mike Smith would be a great starter for that team. I wouldn't let Luongo or Price anywhere near it.

Hockey Canada gives a lot of weight to guys that came up "through the program"

 

ie. U18, World juniors, world championships etc.. Mike Smith is currently playing in his first ever event for Team Canada, and I don't think either of the other guys ever played for Team Canada (Could be wrong?)

I know, I was just giving my picks for the team. It's obviously going to be the three most well known and heavily experienced Canadian goalies that make the team, just like every year...that's just what Team Canada does.

Corey Crawford is another option.

Personally, I think Devan Dubnyk would be a great choice. He plays on an NHL team that's not really known for great defensive play. He has experience on the international ice and he has a very good save percentage. Unless he's a goalie that needs a lot of shots in a game then he'd be a great choice.

Marty Brodeur will likely garner some consideration...which is quite amazing when you think about it.

And yes Serge, Jame Reimer should definitely be considered.

In all honesty, He would be in the running for the third spot, but it's an extreme long shot. He has played in: 4 world championships, 2 spengler cups, World Juniors, U18 worlds. Hockey Canada likes him a lot because he always says yes when they ask him to play.

 

 

However, Price, Luongo, Ward, and Fleury can all say the same thing, and all 4 of those guys are going to get picked before he does, but I'd put him at 3rd most likely to land the 3rd goalie spot (Behind Fleury and Ward)

I just tried a list of potential Canadian d-men and my head exploded after I had 8. An embarrassment of riches somewhat (remember when it was goalies). It'll depend on strategy and what role they need filled.

I really dont understand the logic..We arent picking teams for the 2002 Olympics...We should pick the goalies that are playing the best at the time..(players to for that matter)..

 

I guess I understand rewarding a guy..But just look at the recent performances and make an informed decision...Might 8 year old has to try out to make his team, why shouldnt these guys.

I don't understand any consideration for Brodeur at this stage of the game either, unless you're not playing to win the gold medal. He was supposed to be the starter 4 years ago and couldn't handle it...ended up losing the gig to Luongo. If you want him on the team, make him the goaltending coach.

Brodeur would be the third string IMO and there more for his experience.

I play basketball with a guy who works for the Score (sports station in Toronto). He used to be in front of the camera, but now fairly rarely with majority of his work being behind the camera.

Anyway, I asked him if he would rather keep his current job or go work for Hockey Night in Canada.....but at HNIC, he has to be on air with Stock, Healy and my choice of 3rd most annoying guy on tv. He just smiled and said it would be hard to ever turn down HNIC, but thats a tough tough gig.

Of the 10 guys overhearing the chat, no one liked Stock. Dont these guys do focus groups? Im on a search now to see if anyone likes Healy/Stock.

Watching the St Louis/LAK game and I'm struck by how awful the play-by-play announcing is. Or rather, amazed by how good it is during the Leafs game. I don't know how he is so perfect, half a step ahead of the play, etc. I don't even know who it is, but I feel like we should all watch an American broadcast once in a while to remember how good it is.
