FCP Bob 1,323 Posted May 26, 2012 Share Posted May 26, 2012 The umpires have been cheating openly against the Jays since Lawrie threw the helmet and hit the umpire.The latest example from today Marty Foster throws out Henderson Alverez in a 5-4 game for this pitch with no warnings claiming he was trying to hit the batter because he had just given up back to back to back home runs. It didn't hit him, it was a thigh high inside fastball.If he throws over his head or drills him that's fine but a pitch a bit inside resulting in an ejection is a joke. I'm not saying you need to give a warning every time, but the whole point of the 'warning' system was to prevent situations where teams kept hitting each other. The ability to do that SHOULD mean umps give more leeway to unclear situations like above, or recently to the White Sox. That follows logically, no? Before, you wanted to nip it in the bud, so you maybe had a quicker trigger. Now, since you can just issue warnings if you feel justified and the ejections are automatic, you should be less inclined to throw someone out before warnings are even issued.Like was said above, if the next guy gets clocked on the first pitch or something and intent is clear, you can go ahead and eject without a warning. But in several recent situations, the situation was borderline at best, and the game was still in hand. I think Alvarez may well have been going hard inside on purpose there. But there's no rule against that, I'm pretty sure. Doubtful he was actually trying to hit him in a 1-run game. So if you think he was trying to send a message, issue warnings and that's that. Seriously. Get 4 stops behind where the ball will fall, be moving in when you catch it, have your throwing hand directly next to your glove for the quick exchange. Unless you're Rick Ankiel or Jesse Barfield, you can spare the extra second for the exchange. Annoys me. I'm probably turning into a fundamentals codger but I don't think so. He gives up some movement on it, but he gets better control. And he also throws it slow, so you don't just have to deal with random movement, you have to be ready for anything from mid-60's to low 80's. Link to post Share on other sites

Chris Berman's schtick is just so old. Also they spoke with Josh Hamilton the whole time. Barely even gave Cutch his due. Berman mentioned that he leads the majors in batting average and plays for the first place pirates. "Isn't that good to hear," he said. I understand that the viewing audience probably knows less about him than any other participant but it was pretty bad imo to let him be completely background entertainment. Nomar awkwardely steered the conversation back to what Cutch was doing (4:08). Screw ESPN.
