Ninja Ace 1
@ trapt. I know the smash strat... it was great when it worked. I even posted a modified smash back in 07 to help some of those get out of the ubermicrosI guess I'm just mega-afraid of variance with an 8BI roll as live 1/2 can be crazy swingy since, like you said, it plays like a bad 10NL game and nearly everything goes to showdown. I think my risk of ruin is through the roof because of this@ king. TY did consolidate the roll and put some of the "live fund" back onto FT. GOD the FR games are so much worse there than stars... day games were full of people who'd go broke on one pair... it makes it worth the 8 less tables. Also, I'm on the other side of the commonwealthI think what I'm gonna do is grind out 3 full BI for LOL live 1/2 at a time and keep taking shots.

Since you're familar with it, you can use a similar style effectively. The obv tweek would be vbetting 3 streets rather than open-shoving w/ your sets etc. Anyway I like the idea of shot-taking with a few BI, as long as you game select properly. iF you get seated at a bad table ask the floor for a table change.find a good tableplay good positional pokerrun halfway decent??? profit! CobaltBlue 662
How do you respond to this? Do you keep a 4bet stat? After they 4bet and I fold, I have that little color code. Basically, I now know that they're capable of 4betting me in that spot, so the next time they raise, I can play my hand accordingly...either flatting if I really want to see the flop and have bad non-squeezers behind...or 4-betting with a willingness to 5bet jam.It seems a little silly to me Marchant (the timebank thing in rush), mainly because you're hurting your own hourly much more than you are on a regular table. Because in those 30 seconds you can fold 6 times and flop a setYeah, I mean...I don't do it much. I think the reason that I do it at Rush is that it doesn't really affect any other players like it would at a normal player. It's more like, "You want to jam 13x the pot? Okay...you get to sit and think I'm going to call." Incidentally, I had people do this three times the other day at 100nl where I called. In one case, I single raised 3x and dude jammed for 100bb, I snap with AA and hold against his AKo. In another case, dude raised to 3x, I flatted QQ, another guy jams 100bb...I begrudgingly call and get shown AA. And then in another, guy raised 3x, I flatted KK, other guy jams 100bb...I snap call and get shown AA again. Kind of ridic.

Live 1/2 is level 1 thinking at the most. I would suggest to you than you DO NOT use your uber agressive approach playing live as you do online. (Especially if you treat it as a job) Just simply wait for hands, and use selective agression to take down uncontested pots. (Raise preflop in position, if it's checked to you C-bet, if someone bets into u, fold)1/2 is pretty boring because of the non-thinking that goes on between opponents, but it really is a great money maker. The problem, is that even with a solid game, variance can still kick in.With only 8 BI's, you'll need some run good.

I don't think I'd ever play my "A" game live... and if I chose to, it certainly wouldn't be on an 8BI roll... or even the standard 20BI roll... I'd need like 80-100and like Jon said, variance still does kick in... the last 3 times I've shipped with the nuts at 1/2 I've ended up losing the pot.
SuperJon 175
and like Jon said, variance still does kick in... the last 3 times I've shipped with the nuts at 1/2 I've ended up losing the pot.Yeah, I was playing in Daytona once. Three different tables, I flopped the nut straight. All three times I was way ahead, and still lost the hand, and pretty sure one or two of those hands was to a running flush. hartman72 0
Well, I suppose having 8+BI's helps smooth variance also. I'm sure the 20 times before that though, when you flopped the nuts, it held 17 or 18 times right?
Ninja Ace 1
Yeah, I was playing in Daytona once. Three different tables, I flopped the nut straight. All three times I was way ahead, and still lost the hand, and pretty sure one or two of those hands was to a running flush. The most hilarious beat recently was one that friggin killed me... in 2 partsI was playing at an underground game... with 10-5o... had made a positional raise, and got a donk whos game i know very well as well as 2 extremely fit/fold players to call...Flop was something like Q-4-3 rainbow... donk led out for 20 into 80... i ship my shortstack (twas havin funz) knowing he'll only call with a draw(which I couldn't see any) or 2 pair or better... other fit fold players leave... he tanks and calls with 6-5o... I actually hold... but a combination of drunk and they had just bought this ultra long table I thought he had pocket 6's and muck my hand... another player says "you can't beat 6 high?" and I try to unmuck but alas the dealer already started shufflingLater... I flop bottom set multiway on T-9-8 rainbow from the SB... had already checked dark, same donk leads out for 10 into 20, tight player raises him to 40, I repop to 100, donk insta-shove for 200 total, tight player tanks and folds unhappy, and I sad face call"I got bottom set""I flopped a straight!" as he flips over his cards for 9-7o... then looks at his cards astonished as he proceeds to hit the bottom end and I fail to re-bink (tight player announces he flopped top two)being able to read cards ftw! I'm sure the 20 times before that though, when you flopped the nuts, it held 17 or 18 times right?Depends on what you're running it against, and how strong your nuts actually are... the last two it was nut straight vs top set and nut straight vs NFD... they've got a lot of equity.I'm not going to sit here and cry and complain about losing with the nuts... it's just I know the reality is I have to be able to absorb some blows even if I have a huge edge. QED 4
As we were talking about stats on the last page does anyone know of any good articles on how to interpret stats once you start getting a decent sample size on people? Especially interested in full ring and looking at my own stats to find leaks (not that I need to look that hard) as well as looking for ways to soul crush other people by their stats. Especially interested in full ring and looking at my own stats to find leaks (not that I need to look that hard) as well as looking for ways to soul crush other people by their stats. This thread is a pretty good starting pointhttp://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poker-foru...showtopic=12767Basically, if you're just starting out with a tracking program. I don't have a ton of stats on my HUD. I just use VPIP, PFR, Fold to 3b, Call 3b, Fold to Flop Bet, and Fold to Turn Bet. If you're using it to try to table select. You pretty much want people with low VPIP/PFR on your left, and people with high VPIP and low PFR on your right. That way when the passive players on your right are limping in all the time, you can iso a ton from the button and cutoff, and not worry about getting 3bet by the blinds very often (if at all). Not sure how much of this applies to FR, but hopefully it does.good luck! RakeMyBlind 0
DROBERTS and I have decided we want a thread to help organize and motivate us micro grinders. We want a place to talk strat, post graphs, hands, questions, etc. And of course to bitch about beats and variance ;)We encourage all micro/small-stakes guys to get involved as we grind and move up the stakes. We're planning to move up when we have 25 buy-ins for the next limit, and dropping down if you lose 5-10 buy-ins.Please convert hands, it's just way better that way! http://www.feralcowpoker.com/converter.phpOther than that, let's just grind, get better and move on up!GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is this just for cash games or can a micro-sng player jump in here? I know this is the cash game section, was wanting a place to talk some poker with other people playing in the micros. My cat is looking at me funny when I try to explain to it why I folded to a 4 bet pre-flop with JJ at the 10/20 level. :icon_confused:Edit: I do plan to move to cash games once I'm properly rolled for it.
