Brag post time. Lots of people saw pictures of Malkin practicing and Fleury in his new pads but I just saw them in person during a closed practice.     I was down at the arena to get my security

Yes I agree that Crosby kids gotta go. Can I interest you in a phaneuf?

JapersRink ‏@JapersRink · 20m Really looking forward to Dan Bylsma being either an idiot who can't win with Sid or a genius who can win without a bottom-6 after tonight.

Look at look me...look at ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Pens have a much better chance of winning the cup than you have to actually make this happen. The first 2 game leaf winning streak during preseason would be too much to avoid.

No I am TOTALLY serious...The game of hockey would take a devastating hit if these guys win the cup..Its ludicrous IMO, even to imagine the devastation.Lets go Eric StaalLets go Carolina.

Sorry guys...Why would the Pens winning the Cup be devastating? I don't get it. You say this is not your usual "i am going to bait the Pens fans" post but there could be no other reason for this. I don't think any NHL team winning the Cup would be devastating. That just makes no sense at all.

Arp, * Sunday, May 31 at Carolina, 7:30 p.m.
thanks. I'm leaving my show at 3pm(PT) then! (I really hope there is a game 6!)
Lets go Eric StaalLets go Carolina.
Its about freaking time!I think this has the makings of a great series, but Pitts is the team I least wanted Carolina to face. Going into the playoffs, I believed Pittsburgh was the best team in the East, and I'm not at all suprised they are just 8 wins from the Cup. GL, and I really hope this is as good a series as the Washington one.....and hopefully a game 7 too.

Ok ...Since you asked. The Penguins have been extremely lucky to get this far in the playoffs. A month before the playoffs, they were even money to miss them. They were one bounce away from being down 3-0 to the Capitals, a much better more liked and overall better team. They somehow managed to win and spiked the lunch of rookie sensation Varlamov before game 7. Alexander Ovechkin is the greatest player in the game. Sidney Crosby is a whining crybaby, who all of a sudden is playing good. However in the words of my hero Alexander Semin "he isnt that good"The Pittsburgh Penguins have built their team by basically cheating. They tanked for 6.89 seasons to grab all the top picks in the NHL entry draft. This tactic should not be rewarded. A team like Detroit is commendable since they have built a solid franchise without the help of top end draft picks. They are a real team, Pittsburgh is a joke of a team devised in the secret offices of Gary Bettman to try and sell to Middle America who is obssessed with Nascar. The city of Pittsburgh just won a super bowl, if they win the Cup in the same year, it will throw off the equiluibrium of the universe and the losties will be sent 20 years back in time and will end up playing on the same team with Mario Lemieux. However if they dont win by defusing the hydrogen bomb with the help of Jack,Sawyer and the clan all is well in the world again.Bottom line, if the Penguins win, not only is it bad for hockey, its bad for everyone in the universe.*******The preceding post is filled with accuracies and SOME sarcastic remarks..It is up to you to determine what is what.

Bolded to point out the accuracies. The rest is just ridiculous BS. Serge I think you have a thread dedicated to this type of nonsense. Please attempt to keep it there.I know you're into Semin but actually acknowledging his BS comments especially now is laughable.

your comments are duly noted. While your statement is filled with hatred and just sad commentary I dont take it personally. I as a hockey fan would rather watch a team with Adam Lambert, David Archuleta and Clay Aiken as a forward unit. With Kelly Clarkson and Justin Giuarini on defence and Ruben Stoddard in goal. The team doesnt have the star power that it advertises...Crosby is a little kid living in the basement of a former superstar legend. Malkin is an uber ogre disguised as a hockey player. The coach is a name even hardcore hockey fans have never heard of. Is he even a real hockey guy, or just a stickboy from the late 80s.On a day where we lost one of the greatest characters on network tv(Izzy Stephens) we should reflect on the situation on hand. The kids at West Beverley dont like the Penguins and neither does the citizens of Genoa City, especially Victor Newman and Jack Abbott.**the preceding post is meant to be funny, if you take it seriously you are an ogre Penguin fan as advertised.

I'll take this a bit further, if it were to be a Det/Pitt final, I'd pull my hair out. Just knowing every god damn effing game we're going to get the "HOSSA WAS A PENGUIN IN THIS SITUATION LAST YEAR, NOW HE'S WITH THE WINGS!!!!!! LETS SEE WHAT HE DOES!!!" from the broadcasts is enough to make me vomit, throw in the fact that I could care less about a rematch, and I'd be toast with the finals. If the Hawks make it...well that's a different story.

True but I could go for that. This Hawks/Wings series will be a great one I hope but I know the Winter Classic is going to be brought up after every damn whistle.

Well you already offered to not watch hockey for a year if the Pens win the cup. That's more than enough for me.

I think the X-factor in this series, is going to be twofold. The depth of Carolina is going to need to show up, as Pitt does have some SERIOUS shutdown D men (Orpik). Then, the matchup between offensive defensemen is going to show an advantage Carolina's way. This only applies if we don't hear Gonchar's music come up the tunnel sometime in the series. He can definately change things. But the offensive depth at D by Carolina is more substantial than Eaton, Scuderi and an obviously <100% Phillipe Boucher. I DO believe the Pens will win this series because of their SIGNIFICANTLY superior depth at offense. Unless its grossly high, I wouldn't bet the under in ANY game in this series! Wait this is the bruins thread. . . . .Enjoy the golf course fellas :club: Nyootch!
Moved this from the Bruins thread to keep it more on topic.I think you've got the right idea. The Pens best shutdown D right now is Rob Scuderi. He's playing himself out of the Pens price range for a contract next season, unfortunately. But he did a masterful job against Ovechkin, specifically after game 2. Sure, Ovechkin still got a lot of points, but he didn't score on one of his toe drag shots off the rush after game 2. Eaton as well has been a marvelous defender for us, well worth the $2M that everyone claimed was overpayment at the beginning of the year. Tough to rank them, but I almost feel like Orpik is our 3rd best shutdown guy, mostly just because he's paired with Gonchar, so they haven't exactly been assigned the other team's top players yet.And I agree that Carolina needs to step up their depth. Erik Cole needs to have more than one point in this series. Tuomo Ruutu and Matt Cullen need to produce, etc. If it's all from the Staal line, then I think the Pens shouldn't have much problem, assuming they get production from their own Staal line.Which brings me to my next point. We all know we'll be bombarded with the fact that the Staals are actually brothers on every VS telecast, but in this series, it looks pretty likely that we'll see some serious line matching by the Pens to get Jordan against Eric. Our shutdown centre against their 1st line centre. They could play every shift against each other in this series. It will be very interesting, and I know Jordan always raises his game against his brother, and I'm sure Eric will try to do the same.Really looking forward to all of this. Should be very entertaining, win or lose.
