JubilantLankyLad 1,960
lol @ 10 best tracks being 90% coldplay and mgmtalso lol @ coldplay being #1 albumahh, i meant to link to the blog post explaining how they determined the rankings. it was by scrobbles, obviously, they aren't picks. the tracks list did make me laugh, though.http://blog.last.fm/2008/12/03/
Tactical Bear 3
Cristian Vogel's remix of Thom Yorke's "Black Swan" on The Eraser Remixed is sweet. I've listened to it like 10 times in the last 1.15 hours. I guess it's time to figure out more about this Cristian Vogel character. He's only going to make my iPod more loathsome, as mk would say. Having to explain who Ricardo Villalobos and Cristian Vogel are to random people who use my iPod is going to make me feel like a massive douche.

Sal Paradise 57
it's so funny, the people who use last.fm are EXACTLY the type to scoff at others who openly enjoy coldplay. exhibit B: nickelback's new album "darkhorse" gets 1500+ snatches on what.cd...you know, I was thinking last night about a recent thread here where a guy said he got his girlfriend nickelback tickets for christmas, and I came to the realization that I really don't think there is any way I could ever marry a girl that liked nickelback. I mean, I'm pretty sure she could be top notch on every other level: really hot, super smart, funny, all that stuff, but if she liked nickelback, and not like "well I guess I can listen to them or whatever", but liked them enough to want to go see them live kind of like, then I just could not get past that.what do you guys think? what if there was a girl out there that was virtually perfect in your eyes (looked how you want her to look, great personality, all the other crap you would want) but she was a big nickelback fan... would you be able to marry her? You see, if some girl is perfect in every way, then there's no way for me to feel superior. Toss in that Nickelback fanhood and, all of a sudden, you got a stew (of Wang-driven insecurity). Tactical Bear 3
now, a real discussion is: could i marry a republican....My Special Lady Friend is a Republican, and has a cross tattooed on her lower back. She instituted a "NO DISCUSSING POLITICS" rule, and I countered with a "NO DISCUSSING RELIGION" rule. I've been able to abide by her wishes so far, but so far she has opened at least 4 conversations with some version of:"Jesus Christ how can you not believe in GOD?!"My stock answer always has something to do with John McCain or Newt Gingrich. Hopefully she gets the picture.Anyway, I am sure I could trick her into voting Democrat most of the time if things ever get that far.

Toss in that Nickelback fanhood and, all of a sudden, you got a stew (of Wang-driven insecurity).see, I'm of the opinion that I'd rather have a girl with some sort of physical deformity than one who likes nickelback. I mean, most things that are wrong with girls, they just can't help. but liking nickelback... there's just no excuse. and it really wouldn't even change my mind to know that I could change her opinion of them since I think there's just something fundamentally wrong with a person's mental makeup to be able to enjoy nickelback. GOD THEY'RE JUST SO FUCKING HORRIBLE.

I don't know if he was ambushed with it, but he handled himself with quite a bit of dignity, so I'm pretty sure it was a calculated decision to appeal to his base for 2016. He was in front of a hostile environment, but he kept his head, and even made a few lighthearted comments here and there. That being said, Steward made some preeeeeetty awesome points. I use one of those arguments -- "Well, why don't we just not let Hispanics vote?" -- word for word when sparring with people in public about gay-marriage. Anyway, now I gotta call my special lady friend and see what she thinks about gay marriage. That's one I probably wouldn't be able to deal with, if she was super-anti-gay-marriage. I think her dad almost disowned her sister 10 years ago because she moved in with some half-black dude, so....

Tactical Bear 3
Sal, on behalf of everyone else, thank you for setting the joke up. Ouch, well done. mk, you're useless in almost every way. For those that don't read the Sick Thread, my new Special Lady Friend* is under the mistaken impression that I have a large penis. I do not have a large penis. I am, without a doubt, totally average. I am willing to listen to arguments that, if I am average among the entire American population, I am slightly above average for my race/background, but I don't think the results of that study would yield a p-value of like .80 (making them statistically insignificant). Wang*- I need to decide how to treat the phrase "special lady friend." Should it be:1) Special Lady Friend2) SpecialLadyFriend3) special lady friendPlease vote early and often. I will tabulate the results in 3 days, and then make a decision based on some other, wholly unrelated whim.Thank you.
Tactical Bear 3
agree 100%, i think huckabee handled himself well, despite the logical fallacies. of all the uber contrived late night talk shows with guests i feel like stewart might be the most likely to ambush someone, but i'm sure they agreed this would be a topic of discussion. It's tough to make a really good argument when you're obviously on the wrong side. The only way to really defend the anti-gay-marriage position without resorting to unsound and invalid arguments is to say something like:"Listen, I don't like gay people. They kinda gross me out. My Faith tells me homosexuality is a sin, and even though I've discarded some of the other vestigial notions of morality set forth by the Old Testament, I've decided to hold onto this one because: fags are grodie. Seriously. It makes me uncomfortable and I don't like the idea of some guy teaching my kids and then going home and making out with some other dude. I truly believe nasty stuff like this needs to be kept as far away from me and the people I care about as possible."But, you know, that just wouldn't play very well. So people start from the conclusion "Homosexuality is Wrong" and work backwards, trying to make arguments that strengthen that position."Homosexuality is a choice." Because, you know, if it weren't I'd have no real leg to stand on."Marriage is a sacred institution." Nevermind that, at this point, marriage is basically contract and property law."Civil Unions accomplish the same thing for homosexual couples." Well, separate but equal has an awesome history in this country."Hollywood liberals...." I get it. Nobody gives a fuck what Sean Penn has to say. But: irrelevant. The only way to WIN the argument is to appeal to the worst side of people, hope the people you're talking to already agree with you, or make fallacious arguments and hope nobody took Intro to Logic in college.Wang
