Now people can explain that to their boss if they happen to be looking through the forums at work.

Dr_Shakes 0
I am sort of the opposite of most people.I thought he was a real annoying a-clown when I first saw him.But now I see that his antics are really all about his absolute love for the game.I think he is really funny most of the time. Scanner313 0
Antonio, on the other hand, has really impressed me w/ his play on shows like HSP. I used to think he was a ****** too, but the more I've watched from him, the more gifted I think he is.I have to agree with you. As much as he's written some completely gay crap (Rocks & Rings), he's grown on me to the point where I actually think he'd be a fun guy to hang out with. And I agree, his play has really impressed me. I still remember season 1 (I think) of the WPT where he was running all over Helmuth. It was incredible, he read Phil like a book. rgold79 0
There is a (not very) well known story about Phil Laak that has been floating around the New York poker scene for a long time. Supposedly around 10-12 years ago Phil did a bad, bad thing. The issue has since been resolved. Beats me if the story is true but I've heard similar stories from multiple people. Gossip Away.Blah. I hate gossip and rumors. The story is Phil Laak was involved in an armed robbery of a poker club in New York at some point in the late 90's. Because of this, Phil was forced to leave New York under threats of death. When he went off and became famous, he was approached by the people he may or may not have robbed, and restitution was paid, dropping the issue. I have no knowledge that this is true, but I've heard it from a few different people and it's always struck me as an interesting story.

DaRockets 0
I thinkl Phil Laak is a mastermind. Everything he does at the table he does for a reason. He is on a another level altogether. He is a much better cash game player than tourny player, and makes **** loads of money in cash games. This guy is 3 steps ahead of most poker players mentally and the crazy guy image is all a front. He has mastered his style of the game and I think you will see how good this guy is when him and antonio teach Funbags Tilly to be a super crazy good player as well.DOS

And what the hell's so special about those funbags? Saggy melons .... BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!As for Laak ... he's one of my favourite players IN SPITE of his antics. He's way better than most give him credit for and he really seems to have the right attitude towards the game. I believe he's very smart but always trys to portray the opposite. I'm no where near his level, but portraying myself as someone who is not very intelligent at the table is something that I continually try and do ... the more people who underestimate my abilities the better. His quote "5 world class players and me" is exactly what I mean. He's always portraying himself as happy to be there, hope I do OK etc, when in fact, he's one of the smartest players sitting at any table.I thought he's shown very good skillz on HSP. I remeber one hand where he laid down pocket 10's preflop that I didn't think was possible. Also really enjoy his writing style. He cracks me up pretty much every time I read something by him in Bluff. His writing style is kinda what Bluff is all about, imo .... informative yet has an emphasis on entertainment

mr_druid 0
He was railbirding tilly during the last WSOP at a cash game at Bellagio and my friend took her for about 4k in two back to back hands. As he got up to leave, Phill announced to the table that "it will be nice when the classless internet players leave town after the series". Tom.

seemorenuts 0
http://www.billrini.com/2007/08/04/phillaakhomicidaments/Above link is the best Cliff notes so far.http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat...rt=all&vc=1Above link is the 2+2 story on Phil Laak purportedly hiring a hit on two people. What follows is a similar version to what's been posted on this thread already re NYC theft (or robbery);ironically, we have a Canadian who was caught on tape doing almost the same thing (a safe, video, and money was involved) and some say he died for it. (Won't say more on this, don't ask.)The following post is by an admin, hence it has a bit more credibility than just any poster's words:Re: Crazy Phil Laak story with Pics [Re: glimmertwin] #11528478 - 13:12 04/08/2007 Quote: Quote: All: This is an old rumor that I heard once part of before in the NYC private clubs. I didn't pay it any mind, I assumed it was just an extension of the insane safe robbery story (which supposedly is true as per a friend who worked with Phil at the time at the Diamond Club - but they resolved this incident a long time ago and there is no bad blood so its really not a big deal except a funny story). Something back then smelled fishy about the story, and it still smells fishy now. So what's the deal with the safe robbery story?allegedly he stole a safe from a card club that he worked at in NYC. Phil was caught on video tape (nice one), they call him up and told him that they knew he did it - bring back the safe and all will be forgiven. He brought back the safe and apologized and the powers that be let bygones be bygones. There are many players still around from those old days in NY, thats why the "rumor" is so prevalent. No apologies if there's another thread on this 'breaking story'...
