Pokerstars Rigged For Whom Exactly?

Recommended Posts

To all of the people who think that online poker is rigged (or not mathematically correct), I challenge you to do the following - on a piece of paper make a little chart.80% favorite - Won/Lost66% to 70% favorite - Won/Lost55% favorite - Won/LostKeep track of all of the times that you have both won and lost when you go in as the favorite All-In (usually when people complain about poker being rigged). Let me know your results. I honestly think people have a hard time doing math in the heat of a battle. When you win a pot as the favorite, well that's standard and you should have won. But when you lose, people have a hard time accepting that because the odds say they should have won. Hands like AJ vs KQ will lose 2 out of 5 times. There is always at least a small percentage that your opponent will beat you on any given hand. Even if it's a 2% chance, it's going to happen 2 out of 100 times. If you can't accept that, well at least you can always resort to saying that PS is rigged :club:

First, let me say I don't think online poker is "rigged" but there are things that just seem off. I know people definitely remember their bad beats, AK<A6 aipf, much more than they remember their favorites winning. But I have never been able to figure out the initial "rush" that happens when you first deposit. I have definitely gotten the rush close to every single time after I make a deposit on many different sites. Maybe it doesn't happen to everyone, but I've talked to so many people in person and on here that say after their deposit, they just can't lose and make decent money. Then it slowly dwindles. Now, some people would say that's just a sign of a bad player and variance taking over. But why does the rush happen right after the deposit? There are obvious benefits to the sites by having people make money right off the bat which makes it even more interesting. Once again, I'm not saying it's rigged and I'll continue to play online with full confidence, but my persistence is partly due to the fact that I don't normally lose all my money after my initial rush, I've made decent money online (for my stakes). If I was someone who regularly deposited online, went on a rush, then slowly lost it all, I would probably hang them up online (obviously if you're always losing money you should quit but my point is maybe try live poker more).
My theory on this question is simple, and it certainly involvs no conspiracy of "rigging". It is something that happens to me regularly. Say I deposit and go on a rush playing good poker and double my buy-in, since I think I am playing so well I loosen up and start playing more marginal hands, bluffing more etc. At this time these marginal plays start making poker a losing proposition until I've lost it all. Then, again I rebuy, play solid/tighter poker until I build up again and then loosen up. So basically I am saying that losing your money is a function of what YOU do and not what the poker site does.

There is no way online poker is rigged. All poker is rigged. Lets talk about some hands in a live tournament @ Caesars yesterday.AA raises in bb to 350 with blinds 25/50. gets two callers, and goes broke when the flop is 568. The caller had 47...RiggedAK vs. AJ aipf. J on flop...RiggedChucksty had KK cracked twice by A5...RiggedAQ on an A high flop vs. 1010. 10 on river...RiggedIf online poker is rigged, then live poker is rigged, therefore all poker is rigged.

This could be true for some players. I guess I just don't think players automatically start playing worse once they win a decent amount. I suppose players could loosen up but you would think they could still be successful. Also, if these players are bad enough to lose because of loosening up, how did they manage to win by playing tight?I have a theory that doesn't completely explain the initial rush but I think is somewhat useful. After a player makes a deposit and happens to get this "rush" and builds up a little bankroll, he forgets about money management and plays well over his limits and loses his money due to variance (rather than playing bad). But like I said, this theory still doesn't explain the initial rush.

All poker sites are rigged..... its not how most people think though. They dont sit and watch you play and decide to screw you over. There is a virus/program that is installed secretly when you download the site. what it does is make you win at first and steadily make you lose your money. What that does is make you think you are a good player, when you might just be making money by sucking out, and then when you lose all your bankroll you REDEPOSIT. Thats their goal. To get you to put more and more money online. I know you all have noticed that when you first deposit money you win all the races and make desent money, but then you cant win a hand. No matter how big of a favorite you are. Your aces will get cracked by 37 when the flop comes A46.... its happened to all of us many times.you can look at my tournament results on thepokerdb.com..... i will cash in lots of tournaments at a time then there will be a break (where i cant win no matter what) then there will be another period where i am cashing again. What i do now is withdrawl everytime i get over 1k online. I seem to have better luck this way. I dont play tournaments as much anymore also.I know there are a few players on here like bkice and chucksty that seem to never fall into that slump and i find that odd. i was wondering if they do the same thing as me when it comes to withdrawling. well ive babled enough
if you have it all figured out why are you still playing? Genious. Who knows where to start with possibly the most ridiculous paragraph in the history of the english language. This initial "rush" you all are talking is because generally when most people redeposit, they are excited and ready to play to the best of their ability. Generally accumulating them some money, the moment a bad beat comes, these same people go on tilt and play terrible and lose their roll.

It's not rigged, that's just part of the game. If you put in enough volume of play, you'll see that it all evens out and Lee Jones isn't out to get you, it's just a little thing called variance and being lucky (or unlucky). Being able to handle bad beats mentally and not letting it affect (tilt) your decisions for separate games is a key factor that separates a winning player from a losing one. Take the beat, say nice hand and realize that as long as you're getting your money in good, you'll be a winner in the long-term.
