Who's everyone's favorite director?For me, this is an easy question. I would go with Martin Scorcese hands down. His filmography is just amazing and full of spectacular movies. Mean Streets may be a bit overrated but still a good movie. Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, no need to explain the greatness behind these films. Gangs of New York and The Aviator weren't great movies but good movies. Goodfellas is just amazing, Casino is also a very good movie. And The Color of Money was also a great movie. The replay value of his films are unlimited. I can watch Goodfellas like everyday. His newest movie, The Departed may have one of the greatest casts ever next to Ocean's 11. Everything about the style of a Scorcese's film makes it so interesting for to watch. The music in all of his movies is always top notch and he frequently uses The Rolling Stones. His plots are always very layered and detailed. Characters of his movies have stood out to be some of the most dynamic and exciting characters to talk about such as Travis Bickle, Frank Costello and Tommy Devito. Why Scorcese is still Oscar-less really confuses me. Honorable mention to Francis Ford Coppola and Steven Speilberg. Link to post Share on other sites

runthemover 40 Posted January 7, 2007 Share Posted January 7, 2007 you said favourite not best so I'm gonna go with Wes Anderson. he doesn't have much under his belt, but I love all his movies so you can't really beat that. I probably haven't seen enough of many good directors, so when I get a little bored with my netflix queue I'll probably do a "watch every movie by specific directors" phase Link to post Share on other sites

I HATED RT first time I watched it, but I went back through every one of his movies, and I now adore a lot of things about him. He's done Eat, Drink, Man, Woman: Brokeback Mountain: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Ice StormTruffaut has done: the entire Antione Doniel series, which with the 400 blows was one of the first big shots in the French New Wave movement: Shoot the Piano Player: Jules et Jim: Farenheit 451Pedro Almodovar is great. He is probably the best director going right now. He's done: Volver, All about my mother, Bad Education, Talk to Her, Women on the verge of a nervous breakdown, Live Fleshobviously, I also love Scorsese, but, he sticks to similar themes very often(while he does them extremely well) and that does bother me. While I love Mean Streets, Casino, and Goodfellas I personally prefer films like the aviator and the last temptation of christ as they show his range a bit more as a director, but he continues to go back to the gang life theme way too often Link to post Share on other sites
