Baseball Trivia

Recommended Posts

I posted this question in the general trivia section, but I don't think anybody responded. So come on baseball fans, lets start a trivia section.Looking up answers online is expressly frowned upon, but if you wanna be a little bitch, go ahead. All questions assume "modern era," i.e. no 19th century bullshit. So, who holds the record for batting average by a rookie?

wow....started off with a hard one..unless I'm just blanking on it or something. It wasn't Ichiro...was it? I don't think it was him..but he hit like .350 or something...so maybe it was?? I'll say Ichiro...but I'm pretty sure I'm wrong.

Nope. How long should I leave it open (unless somebody gets it)? Or is it just gonna be us 3....Man I love baseball trivia I hope this thread lasts forever
Pretty sure its George Watkins of STL fame. Now I post a question, right?Who holds the records for most games played, most at bats (lifetime), and most hits (lifetime)? Not really a hard one, but good enough.
Is it some player we should know..or was it just some random guy who had one good year or so???
He was never as good as his rookie year, I don't think. There's a thing in this coffee table book we have.

NONE OF YOU ARE CORRECTIt was Shoeless Joe, who posted a retarted .408 his rookie year.Okay since the dude who got Pete Rose right didn't ask a question (and since nobody actually got mine right) I'll post another. I think this is a bit easier. No cheating.Who holds the record for career total bases? Hint: it's not Pete Rose

I think I wanna challenge the Shoeless Joe Jackson answer. Could you please give a link or tell where you got this from, because was he technically a rookie that year..because he was in the MLB for three previous seasons..with 5, 5, and 20 games played those three years. Now, I'm not exactly sure of how a player qualifies as a "rookie," but would he have really been a rookie?? Not saying I really know the answer, but it just seems a bit odd. Here is where I got this info:http://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/pl...php?p=jacksjo01
Who holds the batting record for most strikeouts in one season?
It is Adam Dunn I think. Didn't he do it like, two or three years ago???Alright, Adam Dunn is correct, so my turn:Who has hit the most career Grand Slams?

20 games doesn't qualify as a rookie season. From thebaseballpage.com:"In 1911, as a rookie, he hit .408...."
Who has hit the most career Grand Slams?
Lou Gehrig am I correct? If I remember right Manny Ramirez is a close 2nd.

However, I was under the impression that if you played pieces of three seperate years..that you would no longer qualify. Doesn't really matter though, we'll just go with it.Lou Gehrig am I correct? If I remember right Manny Ramirez is a close 2nd.
Lou Gehrig is correct. Manny is 3 behind I think. 3 or 4.

Koop, here is a better answer to your question about shoeless joe: From experts.com: "Jackson is the only rookie to have batted over .400; he hit .408 for Cleveland in 1911 (although he would not be considered a rookie by today's definition)."So he was a rookie, but today a player in his situation would not be.Okay I got Gehrig right, I'm thinking of a good question.Okay here's one: Name ONE of the top THREE leaders in career WHIP (Walks + Hits per Inning Pitched).I'll give you a hint (because this is harder than it sounds): 2 of them are from the turn of the 20th century, and one of them is still active.Feel free to give 3 answers, since there ARE 3 answers.

Wow....uh..I'll guess Walter Johnson, Babe Ruth (lol...), and Pedro Martinez.
ding ding dingMaybe that wasn't as hard as I thought. The answer is: 1.Addie Joss 2.Ed Walsh and 3.PedroYour turn

I figured Pedro would likely be in there...his peak numbers are pretty sick.Alright let's see here...There are two players who are tied for most homeruns hit in the month of September....they hit 17 HR's that month. One of them is Babe Ruth. Who is the other???Hint: Played on a team that is currently in the AL Central and is not an active player.

Harmon KillebrewBut that is a wild guess, and I don't even know if I spelled his name correctly.
