SuitedAces21 2,722
any news on that raise nap?
Napa Lite 3,278
I have my review today so I should know in about 10 hours. Conveniently, a sponsored tweet from monster just showed up in my timeline proclaiming there’s no shame in being shown the door. I wonder what they know that I don’t.
Napa Lite 3,278
Review went really well. 3% raise which is really good considering my boss wasn’t even sure if you’re supposed to give raises for non-full year employees and the average raise is less than 3% for full year employees. Glad it’s over though and even though I know the result I’m still terrified to read the full written review.
Essay21 2,385
Hey way to go Napa Don. 3% after joining mid year is real good. That’s something to build on and tells me they like you. Buy Mack something sexy to hump.
Napa Lite 3,278
Yeah, my boss said some really flattering things about what my reputation here. A little hard to believe tbh. And Mack just cost me $300 by somehow tearing a nail and requiring some minor surgery or something. I’m not exactly what they did other than make him better and charge me money. He doesn’t get any new toys for awhile.
InternetExplorer 2,609
Sounds like you are doing good. Did you ask about the PMP?
Napa Lite 3,278
I didn’t. I froze. I’m sorry.
Essay21 2,385
We’ll call you Arnold, cause you’re Mr. Freeze. I wouldn’t worry about it though. In my review I thanked my boss and said I was happy about a raise and bonus I fumed over for days after.
InternetExplorer 2,609
Anyone else use a Fitbit to get a sense of their sleep? I never realized how much of a deficit I carry. It hasn’t been more than a week or two, so it’s hard to draw firm conclusions.
Theraflu 1,035
I did when I first got one, and boy, I sure sleep awfully. I checked with another friend, and he was all like 8 hours straight every night. Mine looked like a seismograph, never more than 2 hours, and at least 15 interruptions of some sort every night.
Napa Lite 3,278
I had same experience as thera. I think I averaged around 3 hours of sleep off of 8 hours in bed. And this was even when I was working out and eating well.
SuitedAces21 2,722
i;ve never used it but i know for sure it wouldn't indicate a good nights sleep. most days i wake up tired.
brvheart 1,752
I, generally speaking, sleep awesome. I don't get enough (I probably average about 6 hours a night), but once I fall asleep I don't usually ever wake up until the morning.

Napa Lite 3,278
Are the only cures for sleep apnea a CPAP and/or to lose weight?
InternetExplorer 2,609
I don’t have a problem with sleeping throughout the night. I have had disruptions basically the entire time I’ve had the Fitbit—travel, drinking, drinking while traveling. But I’m pretty sure the long term average is going to be like 6.5 hours, which is decidedly not sufficient. One of my roommates from college, I remember him trying to convince me he could do four hours consistently without issue. He was a film major, and one of my other friends, also a film major, said my roommate was notorious for passing out during screenings. Sleep deficits always manifest somewhere, I think. Theraflu 1,035
Yeah, the drinking doesn't help. But I'm not overweight. So, as Napa asked, are there other non-CPAP options? I've definitely assumed I have sleep apnea.
BigDMcGee 3,352
I know a woman who sleeps once every 2 or 3 (or more) days, who's not on drugs or anything. She's brilliant, and is a neurology grad student, and they actually studied her brain because her sleeping pattern was so unusual. After a great deal of study, it turns out that she sleeps like a dolphin or something. Parts of her brain will take micro naps, separate from the rest of her brain. Which is consistent with her symptoms, because sometimes she'll be talking to someone, and everything will go black and white for about 15 minutes. They theorize it's because the part of her brain that registers colors is taking one of those micronaps. It's fascinating. I'm incredibly jealous, I wish my brain worked like that
BigDMcGee 3,352
You can get a specialized pillow for side sleeping.
Theraflu 1,035
I sleep on my stomach most of the time, like some idiot. Realistically, I probably ruined sleep forever by getting stoned in my apartment room and running a fog machine for unlimited hours, to the point where you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. And then going to sleep in iodized water fog. For a few months straight.

I've read that Gordon Ramsay sleeps like four hours a night. I think that's probably pretty standard for the michelin caliber chefs. Of course, the cocaine helps.
InternetExplorer 2,609
He is also really in shape. I’ve heard that helps a lot. Last post on the topic. The PMP has a 20hr/year continuing education requirement, and I was researching it today to set up recurring tasks so I don’t get behind. They set up a website with on demand webinars that automatically apply credit as you watch. Not on the level of a TED talk, but I watched a great leadership webinar tonight just to try it out. I can’t believe the ROI on this designation, in terms of prodding me to get better at soft skills.
Napa_Don 688
What's stupid is my boss (unknowingly) totally set me up to bring it up by saying he sees me in a product managing type role and I think devloping these skills would be a major bonus as it is defintiely a lacking area of mine. I might bring it up in my next one on one. It's just we don't have any formal education program from what I can tell and I just don't feel confident in bringing up this type of stuff so soon.
