MapleLeafpoker 1,462
haha, should have known a Zach post here was another Canes-Pens deal. I think you got the range exactly right, he's mediocre-good. I think he's an ideal dman for a contender who wants to solidify their 5/6 spot, and could play some top 4 time too, but really shouldn't. I actually really like his game, and he always plays hard, so I think he's a good player to get. On the broadcasts, they said Canes were 'hoping' for a 1st, but I think a 2nd is about right. Wish it was a little higher, but better than nothing, and Canes seem to draft well in 2nd rounds lately.
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Obv someone in the Canes management department knows that the AHL's Whalers GM was once a fan of Danny Kristo, and drafted him onto his fantasy team in the AHL.
Zach6668 513
Well every single d-man on the Pens is currently injured. So I think Hainsey becomes a top 4, for now. (Schultz, Daley, Maatta all out for a while.)

MapleLeafpoker 1,462
As far as Carolina is concerned, I want them to keep rebuilding, and work their way down to the bottom as much as possible for another year or two. They need to add a top end FWD talent or two, if at all possible, to compliment what they have. Then, add a gtd or get lucky from the farm, and they have a contender in 3 years based on the rest of the young talent sitting there. Unfortunately, they played a little too well the last couple of years, when they needed to 'tank' like the Leafs have the last 3/4 years. Matthews>J.Bean 1 v 13 Marner>Hanifin 4 v 5 Nylander > HFleury 7 v 6 (oh wait, that was just bad drafting!) Nice moves Leafs, thats how you build a team. Add that to all the depth of draft picks, and thats what I had hoped Canes would do.

MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Hayden Fleury really better be something... re: Nylander the hockey gods really want me back on the Leafs bandwagon. For those that dont know, Papa Nylander was my "favourite" Whaler back in the day, mainstay on my hockey pools and always thought he was better than he became. "European Gretzky" Was really hoping the Canes would take him. Crap.
Zach6668 513
What's up with Rask? Why did he stop scoring?
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
What's up with Rask? Why did he stop scoring? Not really sure. One minute him+Skinner were playing like stars, next minute, they weren't. Rask especially, he looks lost out there, on both ends of the rink. Confidence shot I'm guessing, he needs a boost. Whole team just deflated lately.
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Peters is definetly a poor mans Babcock, you can tell he learned a lot from Mikey B. Not sure this is pure Babock, but its a fun listen: http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/gotta-hear-canes-peters-rips-goalie-lack-bad-season/
serge 904
Speaking of the wonderful franchise that this is. Can we have one game where you guys don't score tonight? Ty.
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Thats actually not a big request, Im sure the boys will be happy to oblige. Things have been a little cold lately. (though 1 line in particular seems to be gelling, I could see them score)
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
If they gave out Championship Rings to teams who win meaningless games in March, the Hurricanes would have already run out of fingers this century.
Babying 613
If they gave out Championship Rings to teams who win meaningless games in March, the Hurricanes would have already run out of fingers this century. Just win 2 in a row starting tonight
bigguyren68 155
If they gave out Championship Rings to teams who win meaningless games in March, the Hurricanes would have already run out of fingers this century. Only 6 points back of Toronto, and 7 points back (with 2 games in hand) of Boston.
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Only 6 points back of Toronto, and 7 points back (with 2 games in hand) of Boston. Its going to be another solid 9th/10th place finish in the standings. Exactly what you do NOT want when you are young+rebuilding. But I have to admit, they are really entertaining to watch. Frustrating at times, but really fun. They remind me of the Leafs, not as good and no one quite at Matthews level, but there is a lot of talent on this team. If the young D develop, and some of the young fwds get better, they will be a contender. oh, and we need a goalie. bad.
Zach6668 513
Do you like the Canes broadcast team?
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Do you like the Canes broadcast team? I actually do. In fact, sometimes when the sports pak gives me the option, I pick them over the other teams. I find the colour/analyst guy (Tripp Tracy) to be really good with not being a homer, and telling it like it is, without too much fluff. He gives good background info on what happens behind the scenes. The play by play guy is also pretty good, solid voice (he seems to do a fair amount of NBC games too), and knows the game pretty well. They dont dumb it down too much for Canes audience, though sometimes I know they have to, and some of us might not like that as big hockey fans. What I love is that neither one of them does a lot of "OH NO, our team was robbed by the refs" or "The other teams pest ___ ______ should be suspended". Boston/Philly are awful for this, even some Leafs games. Plus, they routinely call out Canes players for having bad games, or bad shifts. LOVE THAT! I dont watch a whole game very often, so if I tune in in the 2nd period, I want to know if Aho had a bad first period...dont sugar coat it, give me the real info.
Zach6668 513
I agree. I like them too.
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
If they gave out Championship Rings to teams who win meaningless games in March, the Hurricanes would have already run out of fingers this century. They won so many meaningless games, that now they have meaningful games. But I still think it will be this... Its going to be another solid 9th/10th place finish in the standings. That said, so much fun to watch. Poor mans Leafs. lol

Zach6668 513
That's awesome. It didn't look good a couple weeks ago, but the Canes are right back there. As always, I'm cheering for them (so long as it doesn't impact Pittsburgh).
