The Trump Presidency Thread

Republicans playing the long game here. Lead exposure decreases intelligence and the more stupid people there are the more Republican voters.

Hundreds more lead hotspots are identified as Trump prepares to gut programs

Hey BG

What do you think would create more economic growth and job creation,

1. $200 Billion in tax cuts that mostly go to the highest earners.

2. $200 Billion in combined payroll tax cuts and an increase in the Earned Income Tax Credit ?

Tax cuts go to highest earners because taxes are paid by highest earners.

I'm not one to ask, my business depends on the spending of the rich and corporations.

When they stop spending, I stop working.

As do carpenters, truck drivers, waiters, iron workers, you know...people.

When Bill Gates builds a $100M house, where do you think that $100M goes?

I will always believe that the money I earned is best spent by me, and will help the economy stay healthier than it will going to government.

The yacht tax of 1990 is the best representation of how the economy works vs how liberals think it works

Larry Ellison recently bought an estate in my town that has it's own private golf course ( played it ) the news stories reported that the cost to maintain this golf course for himself was close to $1M a year. Take out cost for consumables like water and grass seed, you probably have half a million being spent on labor, add to that the house staff, security, property tax..he's pumping a sizable chunk into the local economy.

Sure it would be great to take away all his money because he has too much according to some, but then you get to lay off a couple thousand workers at all his homes who will not be as agreeing in the socialist comradely as you lefties are.

so in other words you know that the money would help the economy more by going to those who aren't rich but you can't say it. Gotcha

Give $1 to a rich person and most of it is saved. Give $1 to a lower income person and it's consumed and recycled through the economy and through the multiplier effect will create more jobs than that $1 that goes to the rich person does.

Yes, that's it.

Rich people save their money and collect .5% interest and poor people drive the economy.

I am in fantasy land thinking rich people create jobs.

America's economic hub is in the welfare communities where those EBT cards create wealth.

Trump to impose tariff on product-dumping Canadians criminally manipulating market with illegal softwood lumber.

softwood lumber has been a long time issue between Canada and the US and isn't something new with Trump.

The issue is basically that most trees in Canada are on publicly owned Crown land and the lumber companies pay the Canadian government to log on those lands. The US says that the Canadian government doesn't charge enough to those companies and that represents an unfair subsidy from the government. Historically the US imposes tariffs prompted from complaints from the US lumber producers. Canada appeals the tariffs to the tribunals set up in our trade agreements and Canada almost always wins. In the mean time lumber prices in the US are higher than they otherwise would be and the prices to build a house in the US is thousands of dollars higher than it needs to be.

Winners - US Lumber Producers

Losers - Canadian Lumber Producers

- Everybody else in the United States since houses and other lumber products become much more expensive than they need to be.

stupid me also trying to supply background and facts that back up my positions as opposed to just saying something like because midwestern steel workers don't have jobs that makes trade bad.

Of course it amounts to a government subsidy and yes, dumped products do indeed result in cheaper products for the American consumer but at the direct expense of American jobs. Save .10 cents on the front side, costs us $1 on the back side (or whatever the ratio is).

Winners: Free Market Economics

Losers: People who hate freedom.

Now you just wait and see what happens when we declare Alberta the 51st State. I'll be able to drive to Calgary without those goddamn Canadian Border Clerks turning me away because of my criminal record.

more jobs for people cutting down trees in the US

less jobs for people building houses or in the companies that manufacture products using wood

remember that there are 25 times more people working in industries that use steel in their products than there are steelworkers making steel in the US for example
