MGM and Boyd Gaming Strike Deal with Bwin.Party to Form Online Poker Venture
On Monday, MarketWatch announced that MGM Resorts International and Boyd Gaming have joined forces with Bwin.Party to create a new company, which is currently unnamed, in what MGM Chief Executive Jim Murren calls an “anticipatory” move “to be prepared should [online gambling] be legalized.”In regards to the newly created company, Bwin.Party will own 65 percent, MGM will hold 25 percent and Boyd will own 10 percent. With $716 million in revenue last year, the Gibraltar-based Bwin.Party is the largest publicly traded online gambling company in the world, and boasts numerous brands, including PartyPoker. If online poker eventually becomes legalized in the U.S., Murren eludes to the fact that MGM would be “very interested” in using Bwin’s software to develop sites for their properties, such as the Bellagio, MGM Grand, and Mandalay Bay.Read more: http://www.pokernews.com/news/2011/10/mgm-...poker-11336.htm

http://pokerfuse.com/news/law-legislation/...-poker-domains/Nevada-based gaming corporation wants domain names that combine their well-known brands with online poker.By Zack Tracy22 MINUTES AGOMGM Resorts is suing four individuals and two companies for sitting on domains that are closely related to the company. The casino conglomerate claims that the use of several MGM gaming brand names were intentionally registered as domains and represented as poker websites.According to an article in Vegas Inc., the company filed a lawsuit on Thursday with the U.S. District Court in Las Vegas alleging that defendants intended to profit from the registration of the domain names. The four individuals and two companies would be in violation of the Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act (ACPA).“The defendants have done nothing more than tack on the descriptive terms ‘poker’ or ‘online poker’ to each of the MGM marks to form the domain names,” said MGM attorneys who seek a restraining order to immediately block the websites. The sites may have been created in bad faith with the intent to profit from MGM who will need the domains to brand their companies when online poker is licensed and regulated in the United States. Among these websites are: mgmpoker.com, ariapoker.com, luxorpoker.com, excaliburpoker.com, mandalybayonlinpoker.com, bellagioonlinepoker.com, and circuscircuspoker.com.Some of the websites were created as early as 2002 and the recent lawsuit could imply that MGM feels it will be offering licensed online poker in the near future. In October, MGM Resorts chairman and CEO Jim Murren spoke confidently of federal online poker saying he believed there was “better than a 50/50 chance” that Congress would pass a law federal licensing law.see Link for the rest of the story

Bob why does this guy seem to have so much pull? I mean Caesars and MGM are the biggest casino chains and they not only are all for online poker they're even preparing for legislation by partnering with existing online sites. So how does this guy who runs a much smaller enterprise pull so much weight?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheldon_AdelsonHe's the 16th richest person in the World and Las Vegas Sands is worth a lot more than Caesers or MGM are because of the massively profitable business he has in Macau and Singapore. To give you an idea there are only two casinos in Singapore and he is involved in one of them and the casino business in Singapore is almost as large as Las Vegas and Macau's is already many times Las Vegas. Most importantly he's very well connected in the Rebublican Party so he can turn votes based on what he wants.
In 2005, Adelson and his wife contributed $250,000 each (thus the total contribution from the couple was $500,000) to the second inauguration of President George W. Bush.In 2010, Adelson donated $1,000,000 to Newt Gingrich's organization, American Solutions for Winning the Future

I saw that Bob and it really sucks just like Newt does. Hopefully Obama can beat Newt (if he gets the nomination) since Newt's skeletons are plentiful and he's married to the woman he was cheating on his 2nd wife (who I believe he cheated on his first wife with while she had cancer) with the woman who would be first lady if he were elected. I don't think when it comes right down to it Americans want a slut for 1st lady or someone like Newt for president. Just sad to see he has so much power and money behind him. This is the land of big money rules.

MGM CEO James Murren: "Internet Gaming is Going to Pass in 2012"Hopes for this being the year that federal legislation passes to license and regulate Internet poker received a boost last week when James Murren, chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International, spoke confidently about the prospects on CNBC. Asked about the Justice Department's recent conclusion that the Wire Act applies only to wire communications related to sports betting, Murren responded: "It means Internet gaming is going to pass here in 2012 in the United States." Murren didn't preface his comment with "I think" or "hopefully." He just flat out stated that 2012 will be the year.Read more: http://www.pokernews.com/news/2012/01/mgm-...-pass-11804.htm

It's looking like Internet Gaming at the State level is going to happen this year in New JerseyInternet Gaming Legislation in New Jersey Expected by September

New Jersey is still in the race to become the first state to have online poker up and running. State Sen. Raymond Lesniak told PokerNews in an exclusive interview that he expects legislation to allow for Internet gambling to be approved by both houses of the state legislature on March 15. More importantly, Lesniak expects that this time around the governor will sign the bill, which, he said, should lead to online poker being played in the Garden State by Sept. 1. New Jersey was the first state to pass legislation to create Internet gambling in January of 2011 only to have the bill vetoed by Gov. Chris Christie. In the meantime, Nevada passed legislation, approved regulations and has begun to accept applications for Internet poker licenses. "The race is on," Lesniak said. "There's certainly room for two major states to regulate the industry and combine with other states. If we get there first or they get there first, we'll both be operating. We expect New Jersey to be the Silicon Valley of Internet gaming in the country." A state senate panel approved Lesniak's revised bill Monday but an assembly committee didn't vote on the legislation over concerns that a ballot initiative might be needed to alter the New Jersey constitution to allow for gambling outside of Atlantic City even though the actual hubs for gaming will be located at city casinos. Lesniak said this hurdle won't be an issue and that the legislation will pass through the committee early next week. Lesniak indicated that, while he always knew there was no law in the U.S. that made online poker illegal, the DOJ's December opinion that the Wire Act applies only to sports betting helped convince Christie to support the current bill before other states move on the issue. While the previous legislation would have only allowed for Internet gambling within state borders, another result of the DOJ opinion is that Lesniak now expects New Jersey to form compacts with other states to create a larger pool of players. "Only a handful of states can have a regulatory scheme and possess the experience in operating these types of games — obviously Nevada and New Jersey, and likely California," Lesniak said. "It would be a lot easier for most other states to have a compact with us and do a profit-sharing agreement. Market share is very important in this business, and that's why it's important to be there first." Lesniak said the prospect of states going into partnerships with other states on Internet poker means it's inevitable that the federal government will pass legislation to establish a national framework on Internet gamingRead more: http://www.pokernews.com/news/2012/03/excl...-sept-12176.htm
