Dream Interpretation Thread

Recommended Posts

Post a dream here, get an interpretation that might or might not have a shred of plausibility to it.Why? Because people were posting some strange dreams in the Religion forum and it occurred to me there is no dream interpretation thread that I know of, and because friends of mine say I'm good at it.

Last night, I dreamt that I found an old arcade. In the back, there was a new 3D Galaga game that I played for a while, but the game kept glitching. Then, I was watching a young pianist/guitarist prodigy practice, but his piano/guitar was stretchable, and he was amazing. Then his teacher asked me to pretend that I was in an oil barrel, so they put me in a shopping cart, and shoved me across a stage. I went flying through the air and luckily landed unharmed. After that, in the back seat of my car. One of my friends was driving really crazily. Somehow that turned into something akin to a James Bond video game, but again, the controls wouldn't work correctly.

I only had one beer last night (early morning golf today with my dad). And no tylenol pm. Of course I was unable to fall asleep until around 2:30...I have a problem. While I was lying in bed I thought about how my coworkers might react if, during a staff meeting, I was informed that my family had been killed in a car accident (police officers came to tell me). I ran through how their reactions would differ based on my reaction. Then I ran the same simulation in my head for what they would do if they found out I had died. Then I thought about getting hit by lightning and all of a sudden being amazing at basketball, to the point where I'd be one of the best in the NBA. Would I start talking blacker, or would I stick to my humble, super-white roots? I'd like to think that I wouldn't change much, but who knows.Maybe I have more than one problem.

I had a dream where Jesus was driving a pickup. and I was in the back. I tried to flip my daughter into the back of the truck, but I missed her, and when Jesus backed up. He ran her over. I can't really blame him though, I don't think there are cars in heaven.

I dreamed I was walking in this train tunnel, and then walked out of it, then back in, then out, faster and faster. The woman I was with was holding a banana covered in whipped cream and kept getting the whipped cream all over her face.I think it means I like trains.

Old arcade, My best guess here is that as a youth you would try to escape or distract yourself from problems you faced. When young, you are sometimes able to successfully escape and find relief by running away from your problems. As you get older and take on more responsibility it is harder and harder to escape problems by running away thus the glitch in the new video game. You are enjoying watching a musician perform. You are admiring freedom, harmony, passion (stretchable piano/guitar) You would like to participate and are looking for a way. Your subconscious(teacher) is trying push you to take action to achieve harmony and passion in your own life. By telling you to pretend you are in an oil barrel the teacher is telling you to socialize more and not to be so withdrawn. By putting you in a shopping cart the teacher is telling you that your own hard work will be responsible for what kind of rewards you receive. Being in the backseat of your friends car is letting you know that the part of your personality that is driving you is being somewhat reckless. This seems to be because instead of taking action you try to escape and withdraw and let yourself be driven by passive spectator part of you. I imagine this kind of dream is common, I know I have had very similar dreams. In the end you are the best interpreter of your dreams. Remember your dreams are your subconscious trying to get your attention.

I have had this reoccuring nightmare since I was a kid and I would say that it has been about 4 years or so since I last had it but all it simply entails is me in a car with an unknown person. I am in the passenger seat. All of a sudden a thin cord wraps around my neck and starts strangling me in a very agressive way. The person in the driver seat just sits there, really plays no part at all other than to fill the seat it seems. After a little bit everything goes dark but I can still feel "alive" but then a counter begins at ten and counts down. I know that is the counter telling me how long it is till I die. I usually wake up at 1.

The one that I used to have as child was very scary to me, because I was claustrophobic. When we lived in So Lake Tahoe we had an A frame house. My bedroom was huge, almost 25X20 but it only had two straight walls, the others came to angle on the floor, because it was the roof. So the space was not fully usable. The peak of the ceiling I believe was 12 or 14 feet. My bed went head first into the A frame roof, so if I sat up to fast and was all the way back, I could hit my head on the ceiling. I would find myself drifting asleep and having very real nightmares where I was frozen in my bed, unable to move and I was getting very very small compared to the room, or the room was getting bigger and these giant spheres with spikes on them were falling out of the ceiling, which was kindof being transparent with the starry sky, upon me. These sphere looked like old school water depth charges that you might see in old movies or cartoons.Kind of like this, without the other gadgety stuff or coffee:etienne-louis-espresso-coffee-machine.jpgI was never hit with the spheres, but they went past me or just disappeared. It was the not being able to move and the feeling that I was actually awake that was the most disconcerting. I have had the dream a few times as an adult, and it has been at points of my life when the stress was unbearable.

As a child, I had a recurring dream that Mr. T was chasing me around a large tree with a crowd of people cheering him on to catch me. He never caught me though. I still remember that dream almost 20 years later.

I had a dream where I saw myself standing in sort of sun-god robes on a pyramid with a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at me.

Don't know for sure about the spheres, but when we go to sleep, part of our brain induces a temporary paralysis. It's the failure of this paralysis that lies behind sleepwalking. Most people only experience the paralysis after the they to sleep and it is stopped well before they wake up. Sometimes, though, you can wake up while the paralysis is still in effect, and many people find it terrifying. It's exactly this, a sense of being frozen and unable to move and helpless.I've woken up that way, too. Depending on how alert I am, I can find it very peaceful. When I was younger, I was aware of my body looking to all the world like I was asleep, but my mind being wide awake.I've also had the feeling of getting larger or smaller just as I was falling asleep. My guess is that the system of the brain that maintains our spatial awareness is cutting off for the night. As for the spheres, I would suggest floaters. I often saw a black background filled with red or green "tingles," tiny bright lights, when I closed my eyes as a kid.

And now I know why there wasn't a dream interpretation thread before. I am clearly a sucker.

I've experienced sleep paralysis numerous times in my life......I didn't find out exactly what is was until a couple of years ago, when I had a particularly scary episode. I did some googling and found out that indeed, there is this phenomena called Sleep Paralysis. From the bit of reading I did......it is caused by, as Buddhist indicated, awaking while the normal paralysis of sleep is stilll in effect. I read that hallucinations are common and can be visual or auditory or tactile, as well as sensations of smells and levitation. I don't have visual hallucinations........mine are hearing and feeling......including one episode of (the sensation of) levitation. Mine seem to centre around a similiar theme........I hear someone walk into my room.......can hear footsteps, breathing. I feel someone sit on the bed or even get in under the covers.......can feel the pressure on the bed, feel the blankets and sheets moving......I've heard and felt breathing in my ear, and the pressure of a body beside me. All while being completely unable to move. It's terrifiying, but once I figured out what it was, I have the ability to control it more now. I can talk myself out of it, and with a lot of effort, force myself to move and "break" out of the paralysis. Crazy shit.

I also frequently have glitchy poker dreams. Like, I'll get all of the chips in the middle and the cards will suddenly have changed.

Dream Dictionary Definition: Dreaming that you are playing poker, suggests that a situation in your waking life requires strategy and careful planning. You need to think things out before carrying out your actions. The dream may also be a pun on "poke her". Are you trying to get a girl's attention? So you say there is a glitch? :club:

There is a nucleus (bundle of neurons) in the brainstem which actively maintains the paralysis during REM sleep. Note that the paralysis is only active during the REM phase of sleep - during the other, slow-wave phases of sleep you can actually move around. 99% of sleep-walking cases happen during SWS rather than during REM. Most narrative type dreams happen during REM (although you can have some dreams during non-REM). It's kind of an important function if you think about it...there have been some animal studies where if this nucleus is ablated you will see the animals walking around acting out their dreams. There is a rare disease in humans too called REM Sleep Behavior Disorder in which the paralysis doesn't happen properly and people act out their dreams. It's very dangerous.

Yeah, we'd all go around having sex with supermodels every night.

heheh. This got me thinking though, while this sounds nice in theory, has anyone here actually dreamt about having sex with a "supermodel"? I cannot think of a supermodel with whom I had dream-sex. Actually I think I don't typically have dream-sex with famous people; it's much more likely to be someone I know.

I think we have had this conversation before, but I will take it one step further. For me it needs to be realistic. There would have to be some real life situation that would make it plausible. Mostly it involves some of my wife's hot friends getting divorced and being "lonely". It is also with them in the early 20's not wherever they are at now.
