Ways To Improve Online Poker

Recommended Posts

I think it's all good. There's nothing more exciting than being the break before the $$$ bubble, knowing you have to drop a deuce, and knowing you have 5 minutes to do it! Now that is excitement! As has been pounded in here, it wouldn't be prudent to online players in general to have elongated breaks. You are already at home. Regardless if on a desktop or laptop (except for the laptop poo playing bonus perk), a 30 minute break to pick up your order from tacos tacos and pick up stevie jr. from day care is hardly a reason to stall everyone that's multi MTTing that are already devoting 6+ hours in the game!I think online would be better if the contra code worked and gave me 30 extra buys to any tourney when i enter it....besides that it's all good!!!

Not sure if any of the poker sites offer such a feature, but been able to set up private tournaments I think would be good, so for example sites such as this could use say Poker Stars to host there own tournament and invite only members of the site to join.Even on more personal level, if you just wanted to play your friends online you could set up your own tournament, set your own stakes and rules and play away. The site could still make its money via collecting the standard 10% by in fee from those joining the tournament whatever you set the stakes at.
I know for a fact Stars and FTP both do this.

Here are my ideas, feel free to add your own or comment:1. Offer winnertakeall sng's. Well, almost wta. I'd like to see 90% to first and 10% to second for 9persons. This would mean 6persons would be likely have to be 100% to first. Id also like to see 45man tournies that pay 70% to first, 20% to second, and 10% to 3rd. No one is building their roll or cashing out from barely making the money in a sng, all it does is give them one or two more bullets to play another. Taking down first is how you really score, so why not give even more to first.2. Punish those players that abuse the time bank. In turbos especially, but this goes across the board, also near the bubble. It shouldnt be hard for a computer program to be set up to recognize when a player takes most of their time bank nearly every hand. After 3 consecutive hands or turns of stalling, give them less time. 3. For long multi's, every three hours, change the break from 5mins to 15mins. If the extra time is really a problem, then change the breaks to every 90minutes to compensate. Not everyone has laptops, some are still playing on desktops. 5mins really aint enuff to take a good shit, or fix and eat a decent meal. I really dont understand how some people can play these crazy ftops that goes 13hours long with only 5min max breaks.
i think all three of these points are terrible if my opinion matters..ive been playing mtts for a long time and never thought about synchronized breaks until i read NNBs post. i think this is a genius idea and do not know why they wouldnt do thisi think this thread could have been productive with ideas especially with things ive never thought of before that would improve the game so much (ie. NNBs post) but obviously OP failed..

Cool, I never realised this, are there any fixed criteria you need to meet in order to set up your own tournament on Stars, can anyone set up their own tournament and does it give you the option to set your own stakes, starting stacks and seat numbers per table? Also are there any extra costs involved?
on stars im pretty sure all you have to do is email them your first time and they will put the option in your lobby requests. after that you can create privates whenever..you might not even have to email them anymore im not sure if the option is standard. it costs nothing but they do take standard rake on any tourney you create.

but the MAJORITY of online clients do not multitable, so sinchronizing breaks would not be good for the masses.longer breaks after 3 or 4 hours would be good for the mass population of online players.

new ftp update today. ---------------------------Playing in more than one Multi-Table Tournament at the same time can make it difficult to take advantage of individual tournament breaks. With Full Tilt Poker's new Synchronized Breaks, you'll have the chance to "take 5" out of every hour of tournament play without missing a hand. How Synchronized Breaks WorkSynchronized Breaks will take place at 55 minutes past every hour. For example, if a Tournament starts at 10:15 ET, the tournament clock will stop at 10:55 ET and all hands currently being played will be completed before the break starts. This will ensure that players at tables that finish their hands before all tables have completed their last hand won't miss any of the current blind level. The tournament will then resume exactly five minutes after all tables have completed their hands. This will result in most tournaments resuming at slightly different times. The next Synchronized Break will then take place at 11:55 ET.Please note that Synchronized Breaks will not occur in the following cases:•Tournaments that are running but still open for late registration•Tournaments still within the first blind level•Turbo Tournaments still within the first two blind levels•Sit & Go Tournaments with less than 30 playersNow you can take advantage of the breaks during your extended tournament session. Even when you're playing in more than one Multi-Table Tournament, Synchronized Breaks will let you take time out without missing any of the action. For Rebuy/Add-on tournaments the following cases apply:•During non-turbo rebuy + add-on tournaments, there will be a 2 minute break when the rebuy period has ended to allow for add-ons. •For turbo rebuy + add-on tournaments, there will be a 1 minute break after the rebuy period has ended to allow for add-ons. •For rebuy tournaments with no add-ons, there will be a 30 second break at the end of the rebuy period to allow for final rebuys.
