Jindal is good, and in 4 years will be far more experienced than Obama is now, but I still think its too soon for him.

I wonder if he was still a Hindu and hadn't converted to being a Catholic if he could have been elected to anything ?From what I've seen of him there's no doubt you'll be seeing a lot more of him as he is a smart guy and there's always a need for smart people in politics.

You know, and I have absolutely nothing to back this up, other than bs,but bare with me...But, I don't think American's are particularly prejudiced against Hindu's, at least the religion. Muslims, sure, Jews, you bet.. but Hindus.. I doubt Americans have much opinion on it, other than amusement and considering it a novelty. I'm sure there's a great deal of ignorance about the religion ( particularly, since it's more of group of religious traditions, rather than one cohesive belief system), but I don't think there is any particular hate, either. America isn't like Great Brittan, with it's large indian minority ( and thus, large amount of racial tension with them). I think being a (vocal) atheist would hurt you more than being a hindu. But, I could be giving conservative christian voters too much credit, here.My anecdotal evidence of this is my father. My dad, is pretty racist. And he's pretty open about it to. He hates pretty much every minority group, from natives to blacks to mexicans to Southeast asians... what ever. Talks sht about them all. But, every single indian he's ever known, worked with, been his doctor, he absolutely loves. Sure, it's in a condescending love of them, like he thinks they are cute and funny, but that's much better than the prejudice he harbors for other races.

Well, LMD, normally your writing is pretty clear if profane. But this I have to go along with the other, doesn't make any sense. In one paragraph it's pretty clear you're talking about east Indians but in the other I'm not too sure. It sounds like you're talking about Native Americans there. But even then it's hard to tell what you're point is.

I am an indo-phile too. I actually spent several years studying sitar under one of the greats. The Democrats have really gotten everything they wanted. President. With a decent voter mandate it looks like. Bunch of pickups in house and senate. More governors. More state legislature. The gravest mistake they could possibly make is to delude themselves into believing that this was a mandate on leftist politics and that they now have political capital to "Roosevelt up" America. A lot may disagree, but I've always viewed Obama as a centrist in many ways. I have always tended toward Democrats, but the reason that I became excited about Obama was because I perceived him to be a very rational and thoughtful man. I believe, and now it is up to him to prove to me one way or another, that he will use his wisdom and reason to make the best decisions for America, and not for some abstract concept of liberalism.

I agree. He is far more rational and thoughtful a man than most candidates in recent memory. Still, there is no escaping the fact that his philosophical framework is hard, hard left and even though he may pay lip service to "centrism", there's pretty much no argument about what kind of leopard lies beneath his carefully tailored spots.

Well, I'll respond to him then and pretend that it's you.It seems to me then "Fully supporting" is a bunch of bullshit, where you get to say that you fully support the president you get to mock liberals for not having the same amount of respect as the president, but you also get to call the president any disrespectful thing you want, because you don't actually have to do anything to "fully support" besides say it. I didn't say he said obama was hitler, I said he compared him to hitler, and he certainly did that. I also do not except a limited definition of fascism, fascism involves specific philosophical positions, none which he qualifies for. Using it in any other way, its hyperbole and insult. I can decide to call McCain a faggot, and say " well, what I mean by faggot is an old man from arizona " and it doesn't mean that's what the word means, or that it my definition of it should be respected. Calling someone a fascist or comparing them to hitler is the most fear mongering, reactionary thing you can do. Plenty of liberals did it when describing bush and his policies, and they were absolutely wrong to do it. But one thing they weren't doing, is being "respectful". And again, I don't know how, if you really think someone is a fascist ( and aren't just using the word as an insulting term to belittle the man), how you can "support" him, and support the office. If Mussolini was elected president, I wouldn't be like " oh well, you know, he's a fascist and everything, but he's the president now, so we need to all come together and support him. 8 years ago we were still in the middle of the great recession so a lot of anxiety wasn't too crazy.

 

Now the economy is actually is good shape but the new President is crazy so a lot of anxiety should be expected.

 

The people who I follow with the most concern about Trump are actually not lefties but sane never-Trump Republicans. They're familiar with who the Trump team actually are and it scares the shit out of them, especially the foreign policy experts and the honest economics and finance people who know that the combination of standard tax cuts for the rich combined with Trump's anti-trade bias will be bad for the economy overall.

Don't be too hopeful. Democrats and Republicans are not at all the same. Almost no one thought that W would possibly be as bad as he turned out to be. Also, Obama had fanatical opposition from Republicans and couldn't do much for 6 of the 8 years without the House. In the first 2 years Obama made the huge mistake of trying to cooperate with Republicans. Trump is starting off with control of everything and won't even pretend to listen to the majority that voted against him.

The GOP candidate had less votes in 2016 than in 2012 or 2008, when they lost both times.
