I honestly have no idea but the Obama camp clearly found a clip of it. He goes on to say that that percentage was higher than some of his Republican colleagues. I am assuming it came from when he was in the GOP primary obv. It is in a new Obama commercial they have been playing in Miami non stop. If I can find it on the internets I will post it.edit: here you go----
they should just play that on an endless loop if they want to win.
Damn... now that is a great commercial! Haven't seen it here in New Mexico yet... :club:

uggh...that is a bad one...not enough to win, obv, but could do some damage.
I am just saying (and I know you agree) that the Dems are better off sticking to stuff like this (and variations) and trying to make sure Obama wins the debates. Forget going after Palin.....I dont like her either....but I recognize that attacking her will probably backfire.

Well, since no one would bite on the 90% talking point, the problem with all of these numbers (except for your 4x as often, which is still acurate) is that about 60% of all votes are routine/procedural and unanimous. If you divide McCains 10% difference (as used by the BHO campaign) he actually differed from the GOP line on 25% of substantive votes orif your 19% is right (and not adjusted for substantive vs routine votes) then McCain differed nearly 50% of the time...that one doesnt smell right though, so the 19% is prolly already adjuste.d.
And you accuse other people of pulling numbers out of thin air? :club:

There is plenty of stuff on McCain to not even both with Palin. On Bill Maher last night they talked about when they signed their checks to Obama they had "for negative campaigning only" and "get medieval". Pretty much sums up what Obama needs to do. It's classic how the Republicans are notorious for this, but when someone does it to them all of a sudden it is a "sleazy" campaign.

I agree. Strategy for Dems:Focus on the Economy (stupid)McCain = BushTax Cuts for Middle ClassRepublicans:Obama = unexperiencedPalin, Palin, PalinObama = elitistIn general, I think Obama needs to focus more on himself. The love affair with Palin will cool down a bit in the upcoming weeks and trying to attack her only keeps the attention on her.

if www.senate.gov is "thin air" you have a point.
Where on senate.gov does it say what percentage of votes are "substantive" vs. "routine"? Anyways its moot since mccain himself obviously thinks he voted with bush more than his colleagues. That does have the potential to be a very effective commercial.

All votes by every Senator are posted. I counted them during the period of time they were both in the Senate. Absent votes on unanimous issues were included, giving the both the benefit of the doubt on showing up for issues that were important to them. I didnt include absents were the parties differently since that would involve some subjectivity as to how they would have voted. Excluding absents completely would obscure the trends too much. If you include the absents where the parties differed and assign a vote youre still not coming up very different than the 60%. Yes..I have too much time on my hands :club: and I corrected a misleading statement in your post, where some of = 9. Those 9 include Ron Paul and similar libertarian/independents that ran on a GOP ticket, and my guess is the difference is due to their fringe philosopies...but i dont have that much time to count them all!

No, my statement said "mccain himself obviously thinks he voted with bush more than some of his colleagues""higher that a lot of even my republican colleagues" was his actual wording.

no, you said "more than his colleagues", without a "some" qualifier the implication is ALL of his colleagues

FYPObama only focuses on himself, so there shouldn't be any difficulty continuing. But given that it's so obvious, the reality is that both sides will screw up and the one that screws up least will probably win.

yeah thats the thing. Sorry to use a sports metaphor, but this election seems a lot like a basketball game. Obama was up the whole way and McCain/Palin just scratched and clawed back into the game with a huge run. Have they shot their wad? Or will they keep steadily putting more distance between themselves and Obama/Biden (which would probably have a massive effect on the congressional races).I have been betting all along that Obama would surge ahead after the debates and win by a nose. That scenario seems like one of the two likely ones.I did watch Bill Maher's show....it is clear liberals just dont get some things. Salman Rushdie and Jeanine "annoying" Garofalo both said they expect big Obama wins. Thats just silly. If anyone wins this election big it will be McCain. I still like Barack by a nose though. All he has to do is run an endless loop of commercials with Bush and McCain hugging and McCain saying "I voted with George Bush 90% of the time". Forget Palin exists. I thought it was a dumb selection at first but it was clearly 4th level political thinking that shot over my head. The pick was genius and the best way to defuse it is to re-focus on McCain. They just are not going to get anywhere attacking a mom of 5 who has captured the imagination of the conservatives (and some centrist women surely) in this country.
