I realize that the three stars mean absolutely nothing, but seriously guys?http://scores.espn.go.com/nhl/boxscore?gameId=271107025
Is your complaint that Marchant was the #1 star? Because I watched a fair amount of this game, and he played very well.Stats dont tell it all.If that is your objection?!?!?!

Shouldn't Mueller get a star?
Honestly, and I didnt watch the whole game but did see most and I did see 2 of Mueller's goals....I think Marchant played better! The goals were nothing special, Bryzgalov was weak on one of them, and Mueller didnt seem to stand out. But yeah, hat trick not being top 3 does seem strange.

This is my complaint. the guy got a HAT TRICK. I don't care how fortunate it was that he managed it, YOU GET A STAR IF YOU HAVE THREE GOALS.the media so often butchers the three stars, I guess it shouldn't surprise me...

The problem here is that it's a home town pick. When a game goes to OT, the three stars are picked prior to the end of the third. Then, the usual method is that the goal scorer in OT gets either second or third star. Since it would be a hometown media person picking the stars, they chose to REPLACE the Phoenix second star (Which would likely have been Mueller) with the OT goal scorer (Doan). In reality, he should likely have bumped one of the two Ducks. But that's a hometown pick for ya. Like Joe Bowen picking two leafs in a five goal loss (yes, it's happened.)

Big money teams such as the Leafs and Rangers should be offering the scouts for Colorado, New Jersey and Detroit long term, million dollar contracts. Not only would they get great prospects, they would potentially save money long term by avoiding overpaying for free agents. Not a new observation, but I still think it is a good one.
