Best Day Of The Year

Recommended Posts

Well it's official- this year is officially the most boring ever. The only other 2 years that came close were 00 and 04. But 00 had some crazy games in the later rounds. Also, most of the games this year werent even close. This further separates this year from the pack as the clear "worst year ever"* upsets-07- 11, 1100- 11, 10, 1004- 12, 12, 10but 00 had 1, 1, 2, 2, 2 lose in the 2nd round04 had 1, 1, 2, 2 lose in the 2nd roundthis means it will be pretty much impossible for this year not to be the worst ever.It will most likely win this ignominious contest by a pretty large margin.*diclaimer- at least so far.

Same as me. I had ODU in the Sweet 16 so Butler/Maryland meant nothing, although I'm guessing most people had Maryland so Butler winning was good.I won 6 games, lost with VCU over Pitt.

If Ohio State would have lost yesterday then I would have been in the driver's seat in my office pool. Literally about 95% of the people in the pool picked OSU to win it all, while I didn't.

Have you been watching the games this afternoon?
Yea I watched a couple. I guess judgement of quality depends on what you value. If you value close games, then this tournament is slightly below average to well below average, since thursday and friday were so horrible in terms of dramatic games. In fact, today was pretty mediocre also. However, if you value upsets, then this tournament is by far the worst one ever.Let's review the data. These are the years with the fewest first round upsets. first round upsets-07- 11, 1100- 11, 10, 1004- 12, 12, 10second round upsets-07- 200- 1, 1, 2, 2, 2 04- 1, 1, 2, 2 There were probably a couple years with a lot more first round upsets and very few second round upsets. But since there was only 1 this year, then even if some other year miraculously had 0 2nd round upsets(which I doubt), it would still be soundly beaten by this year due to the amazing lack of upsets in the 1st round also.Unless Butler, UNLV, SoIllinois, or maybe Memphis wins the title, this year should go down in history as the year there were no upsets. But it probably wont since no sportswriters want to say anything negative about the tournament and I seem to be the only person who is keeping track of this sort of thing.

People are noticing it, it's not just you. There just aren't that many upsets this year. The difference between previous years and this year is that this year there is a group of teams that clearly distinguished themselves ahead of everyone else. Last year, nobody really knew who could win it because no team or set of teams really set themselves apart from the rest of the field. This year, the 1 seeds and 2 seeds (Wisc too with a healthy Brian Butch) set themselves above the rest of the field. That explains why there aren't many top seed upsets yet. It is kinda strange that there weren't more upsets among the mid-seeds because there seemed to be a lot of parody once you got past the top 8-10 teams.

Or maybe the selection committee did a pretty good job with the seedings. I'm not surprised there are less upsets this year. After what George Mason did last year the bigger programs are not taking smaller schools nearly as lightly as they had in the past.

the must go to college rule has made the power conference schools much stronger across the board. the kids jumping to the NBA would never be at VCU anyways.my biggest problem with this tournament is the overall quality of play. it has been ragged. lots of turnovers, lots of missed fre throws. kind of painful to watch other than a few standout teams.i dont know when it happened but the NBA features much much more attractive games than college now. much higher skill level obviously AND the team play and flow is now better too.

I like the NBA a lot more than I like college basketball. However, I like college football a lot more than I like the NFL.A few reasons--the skill difference is much more noticable in basketball than in football. -in college football nearly every game means something, and unlike the NFL, there is the potential for big upsets.-college basketball regular season games dont count for much of anything.
