How can it be 387 - 2 when there are only 100 senators?
Because, once again, that was the house voting. The House passed it, and it will now be moved to the Senate. If the senate PASSES the bill, then we have some problems. That's why it's important to contact your states senators now, and make sure they know that if this passes, they will not be voted for. Get on it people!-Shawn K

Yeah, my understanding was that this was in the Senate, which was on CSPAN-2.The way I understand it now is that it is in the House, which is on CSPAN.I missed all the discussion cause I was mostly watching CSPAN-2.Oh well

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Most forms of Internet gambling would be banned under a bill that received final U.S. congressional approval early Saturday.ADVERTISEMENTThe House of Representatives and Senate approved the measure and sent it toPresident George W. Bush to sign into law.The bill, a compromise between earlier versions passed by the two chambers, would make it illegal for banks and credit card companies to make payments to online gambling sites.Democrats had accused Republicans of pushing the bill to placate its conservative base, particularly the religious right, before the November 7 congressional elections."It's been over 10 years in the making. The enforcement provisions provided by this bill will go a long way to stop these illegal online operations," said Sen. Jon Kyl (news, bio, voting record), an Arizona Republican and a chief sponsor of the measure.Negotiators from the Republican-led House and Senate reached a deal on the legislation Friday and attached it to unrelated legislation to bolster port security, which the Congress approved. The final bill dropped earlier provisions opposed by some gaming interests that would have clarified that a 1961 federal law banning interstate telephone betting also covers an array of online gambling.Investors in British-based gaming companies such as BETonSPORTS Plc, Partygaming Plc and 888 Holdings Plc have tracked the legislation.Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, a Tennessee Republican and potential 2008 presidential candidate, recently appeared at a hearing in Iowa -- the state that holds the first presidential nominating contest for the 2008 election -- to listen to concerns about Internet gambling.(Additional reporting by Jeremy Pelofsky) http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060930/wr_nm/...h_gambling_dc_2Well this is just great :club:

When is the Senate voting on this? Sorry if it's already been answered, but I have very poor reading comprehension skills.

I don't see how that's out of the question. There have been high court cases on the matter before, with the judges ruling in favor of poker being a game of skill (Bill Baxter).
i think it might get up there too someone will definately try all depends on if the SC would take the caseif i am not mistaken the NC SC heard this issue but i think they just dodged the question

From this stickied thread at 2+2.The Senate used a procedural measure to unanimously accept the port legislation immediately upon passage by the House. So, you will not see a recorded vote by the Senators on this matter. The House has now passed the bill by an overwhelming margin, 405-2.So to my understanding it's been passed now by the house and senate. When the president signs it is when it becomes effective. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Precisely. That is why card rooms are legal in CA, but slot machines are not, unless it is on Indian territory, of course. This is why we can play poker to begin with...A game of skill, not all luck, like slots. You can't be a good "slots" player. No one walks around saying, "Im a pro slots player." Well, I'm sure there probably are a few, but they usually just get punched in the face or jump kicked in the throat.

Yeah I heard something about this as I am from NC. I think some people tried to open up a public pokerroom-only poker- and said it was legal because poker is a game of skill and NC law bars wagering on a game of chance. They lost, from what I heard.

Ugh....time for the Surpreme Court to overrule this. Who is going to be the first to get arrested and send this baby to the SC.
I don't see a way this law is unconstitutional. Unfortunately, if it becomes law then there's nothing that can be done.Is this just so people can't use their credit cards to play poker? I really don't think that will affect the games THAT much, will it?

I think it might be any form (Credit Cards, Check, Neteller, Western Union, etc...) of depositing $ into internet gambling sites.

It all depends on the language of the bill.Credit cards/banks = We should be ok.Prohibiting third party companies such as Neteller or Firepay = Problems.Only other thing I can think of is money orders, since once you purchase one, it's in your hands completely as to where you send it. I could be wrong though.
